> 3 dayI really like this backpack! It is so convenient to have the ScanSmart feature when going through airport security! The laptop compartment unzips to allow you separate the laptop from the rest of the backpack. This backpack has lots of storage compartments like many other reviewers have mentioned. I was able to carry my laptop, DSLR camera, a couple of changes of clothes, several magazines and books, and still could have packed more. Of course it was pretty heavy at that point, so I wouldnt have wanted to pack more. My point is that you can carry a lot with this backpack! It seems like it is good quality and will last a long time. However, this is a pretty large backpack. Im a pretty big guy (64) so it fits me fine, but it looks a little silly when my wife wears it. So you may want to get a smaller size backpack if you dont want to look like a pack mule.

Greater than one weekI got this as a gift for someone who travels a lot, so I cant really speak to longevity. Ive had dozens of laptop backpack over the years and this one has to be one of the best designed ones Ive seen. I initially purchased the larger one, since the detentions were only a half inch larger in each direction! That was a huge mistake. a half inch all around is way larger than one would think and no way that one would have fit under an airline seat. This bag, on the other hand is the perfect size for someone who has to carry a lot of gear, but needs to remain conscientious of size. The fact that it opens up like a clam shell is really nice. To think of all the times I had to manage two laptops, shoes, belt, wallet, carry on.....just shoot me already! This bag definitely keeps the line moving faster. Wish everyone had a similar set up going through the TSA checkpoints!

Greater than one weekNice quality and functional as well. Could use more padding in the laptop compartment - so you have to carefully drop it when you put it down. Also: front department kind of unstable when open and things can fall out when the zipper is not closed. Same for the other zippers: if they are not closed properly , things can fall out. Once you know the shortcomings you can adjust your behavior and it is just fine - for the money. Update December 3rd One the back straps is starting to separate..I am carrying the equivalent of 2 laptops..probably not made for the weight..downgraded to 3 starts... Update Feb 2013 Need to replace it soon...doesnt last.. June 2013 - UPDATE !! Free Replacement with Redesigned Version by SwissGear They just send a replacement. I am pretty sure that they redesigned the area around the straps and got rid of the elastic material. That should hold much more weight than before. I previously replaced it with a different brand for 100 USD..still like this one better. Thanks SwissGear ! Greast deal for the money !

> 3 dayIm writing this review from the airport now having just gone through security. First off, the bag is solid. Feels it, looks it and should hold up no problem to my travels. Lots of pockets for storage and organizing. Fit my dress shoes, three shirts and some other assorted clothing items as well as my usual travel electronics and accessories. The reason I bought it, though, was for my laptop on business trips. I asked the TSA agent monitoring our line if the bag folding flat was acceptable. He said yes so long as nothing obscures the laptop. The way this bag is constructed has the laptop in a pocket closest to your back and when opened flat, the only thing on that side of the bag. Theres even a little mesh window for security to see through. All your other stuff is separate. Got to the x ray machine and unzipped the bag, no agent gave it a second glance. Went through the scanner and grabbed the bag and my shoes then I was on my way. Its a simple thing, removing your laptop, but this actually made things faster and easier because there was no need to fight off people around me as everything I had was already contained. I could snag everything and get out of the way. Very happy.

> 3 dayUsed laptop backpacks since 1999, and I have gone through several brands. When I found SwissGear, I stopped changing brands. Pros: 1. Toms of pockets, slots and a HUGE main compartment. Place for mp3 player, batteries, Kindle and all the related electronic stuff you cant live without while on the road. 2. This backpack is significantly lighter than the previous two SwissGears packs Ive owned. 3. Airport security friendly. Leave the laptop in the bag, unzip the back, fold it flat and send it through the x-ray. 4. Comfortable on the back, and easy to hand carry when needed. Cons: 1. The light weight seems to translate into lower quality in a few places. One of the side grommets caught on a seat belt and was pulled out with no effort. 2. Zipper does not go down all the way on the bottom front pocket. 3. There is no divider in the huge center compartment, and small items tossed in there fall to the bottom and get lost. 4. The zipper sections in the main compartment are small. Given the room available, they could have been much bigger. The final comment is not really a Con, but the bag holds so much that you can actually make it too bulky to fit under the seat in front of you on the plane, and make it too heavy to comfortably carry on your back. Now you really can carry all the junk you want to carry with you!

Greater than one weekI really like the backpack as a backpack/computer bag for work. Plenty of space in the main pocket for my lunch cooler and whatever else I want to pack. The unfoldable laptop compartment is helpful when travelling, however, there is no luggage strap. Its very annoying because most TSA Friendly Business backpacks have an integrated strap for attaching to a rolling suitcase. The bag would be PERFECT if it had a luggage strap. Edit: To provide a bit more information about the Swiss Gear SA1923 Black TSA Friendly Scan Smart Back Pack - I am still using this product on a daily basis to carry my work items (laptop, lunch, medications, etc). Even with the constant abuse, I have yet to notice any signs of premature wear and tear. The bag is just as solid as the day I bought it. I have received multiple compliments on it in the workplace asking where I bought it and how I like it. Would definitely recommend as a work bag.

> 3 dayThis bag has much larger capacity than the other SwissGear backpack that I was unhappy with. I needed a bag that had a dedicated and padded area for a laptop, and large compartment to fit my work cloths and lunch for when I go to the gym, and this does the job. My other requirement was a side buckle so that I can attach wet flip flops to the outside, and this works adequately. I keep my lifting gloves in the mesh pockets and they stay put, even on motorcycle rides. I dont ever use the 2 side zippered pockets, but others may find a use for them. So far Im happy with the durability over the past 6 months of daily use. I dont expect problems so early considering my previous Outdoor backpack lasted 10 years before the shoulder straps began to tear.

> 3 dayI havent bought a new backpack since middle school. Im in my sixth year of college and still using the same backpacks. Although Ive tried to be frugal, I wanted to look for something that was comfortable for my back and shoulders for long school days and that didnt have holes in it. =] This is the first backpack Ive ever bought over $20, but I think it is really worth it. This semester has been made very easy and comfortable with this bp. I love the handle, at first I wondered if it would look goofy ^-^, but its great for picking up easily, or hanging onto a bathroom stall hook, or on any hooks really. (Your friends will probably yank on it though while its on you...) The straps are very cushioned on my shoulders and I have much less back/shoulder strain. The few times Ive carried my laptop in this backpack, I wondered if I remembered to put it in, because my backpack felt too light. Bottom line, sorry this is so long, and I do not regret buying this. Its helped me become more organized and I know exactly where every item is, so I dont feel as flaky or like a spaz. On an insignificant side note, I also feel a little more professional at school, which is new for me, I usually have holes in my backpacks, socks, and shoes :D

> 3 dayI have used many different types of laptop bags usually over the shoulder Tumi or Targus laptop bags throughout my career. I started to notice that my back was starting to hurt and the doctor said that it was probably from lugging my laptop around. He suggested that I try a backpack style bag. I tried several brands of backpack style laptop bags which truthfully mostly work the same in that it puts the weight on both shoulders. However, I liked how the pocket compartments were in this SwissGear. I also really like the ScanSmart system whereby I can just unzip the backpack and it folds flat to expose the laptop without having to take it out. There are 2 file compartments for putting file folders in. There are 2 pockets on each side which can be used for a water bottle or other miscellaneous items. The outer pocket has a fairly generous amount of space. The only thing I would have liked would have been another zippered compartment inside the outside pouch. But this is a minor technicality and I would highly recommend this backpack!

> 3 daySwiss Gear Lightweight ScanSmart Laptop Backpack SA1923 When I started school, I had an old, beat-up Messenger Bag that had been with me for as long as I can remember. That lasted all of about 60 seconds when I realized Id need something, newer, bigger and better. I spent some time researching and asking around and finally decided on the Swiss Gear Lightweight ScanSmart Laptop Backpack SA1923. ATTRIBUTES: -Its HUGE! -Multiple pockets to satisfy my need for carrying everything and having it all sorted, just so. -Reinforced seam stitching. -Rubber reinforcement on top grab handle. -Many, many zippers. -Dual water bottle holders. -Large, laptop compartment with extra padding. -Zips in half for use in X-Ray machines at airports, and to separate laptop compartment without actually removing it. -Easily adjustable shoulder straps. -Small pouch for MP3 player with external cord port feeder hole. -Sunglass loop on left shoulder strap. -Metal zippers with rubber reinforcements. -Zipper holes are large enough to accommodate a lock. -Double zippers on each pouch opening. -Padded shoulder straps. -Stylish. That means its black! -Dividers in main pocket for even more organization. -Built in mesh pencil pouch for smaller objects. -Finger holes on bottom of shoulder adjustment straps. PROS: -Durable. In the four months Ive been using it, theres no seam rips, no wear marks, not even on the bottom. I use this bag daily, even on the weekends to carry on average 30+ pounds of books and various other school supplies and it still looks brand new. -Stylish. Its black, with red and gray accents. And the gray pin striping is actually reflective, making me easier to see in the dark. This is a good color combination. -Comfortable. The padded shoulder straps make this bag, even with as much as I carry in it, comfortable. -The finger holes on the bottom of the shoulder adjustment straps make this bag easy to adjust so that youre wearing it correctly, which ads to its comfort. -The padding around the laptop compartment is so ample, I have no concerns about my laptop being battered or bruised. -Even the smaller pockets hold a lot of stuff and they make it easy to access items more quickly. Pens, thumb drives, etc. -Limited Five Year Warranty CONS: -The padding on the bottom of the laptop compartment seems a little light compared with the sides. This means I dont ever drop my bag with my laptop in it. -Its front heavy and falls over. Maybe thats because I have too much stuff in it. -Due to the tapered design, if you have it crammed full, theres not a lot of room to get to the lower portion of the main pocket without fully opening it. -No belly strap. OVERALL IMPRESSION: -This bag is surprisingly durable, well reinforced and extremely useful. It has numerous useful features that make it well worth the money youll be spending. RECOMMENDATION: -If the last four months have been any indication, this bag will last me the rest of my school career. To anyone looking for a one-time purchase of a good looking, durable bag, I highly recommend the Swiss Gear Lightweight ScanSmart Laptop Backpack SA1923.
