More functions than you’ll need, but I wouldn’t buy a calculator with less functions, especially for the price. My son needed this for High School math. With that said, you’ll need time to learn more advanced functions, it’s a very powerful device. Graphing, get out.

The picture shows silver flat keys with blackened math functioned symbols, but the one I got has total chrome keys and the symbols are not blackened out. The math function keys are difficult to see unless the light hits them just right,. I bought this calculator because it is approved for taking to my Ham Radio license test. I tested the calculators functionality against my 20 year old HP graphing calculator and a the math seems accurate .. at least for engineering. I like the rest of the calculator; fits good in the hands and the display is easy to read, but why the engineers would have ever gone with chrome math function keys is beyond me. They must have wanted to make it look cool, but cool it is not. Im going to keep it as it does what I need it to do, but I will be filling in the symbols with flat black so I can see them. if you find this calculator with different color keys, get it, or maybe find an older model. If you expect perfection, then pass on the calculator. Shame on the Engineers.. and to TI for allowing it to go out like this. They should try using it before putting it out on the production line.

I am happy that I bought this calculator as I will soon my FE exam which requires that I use a TI 36x or similar calculator. Initially, I had a TI 84, and transitioning to use the TI 36x has been easy to figure out and use. Its a small calculator but easy to use. Highly recommend this product.

Ive used a lot of calculators (scientific, graphing, and handheld computers), but this one does everything I need it to without needing to mess around with features I never use. Allowed throughout school and FE/PE exams too. Anything more complicated and Im probably using Octave or Matlab anyways. IMO faster to use than the Casio 991 series with basically the same features.

So, I needed this 36X for a Calculus based Physics-2 class. Who knows why this teacher allows this, but not the graphing type calculators. This does so much of what my N-Spire does. Sure, the N-Spire CASdoes more, but really, I just dont think it does much more that gets used on a daily basis. In fact, Ive been using my TI-36X now more and more as a daily driver. When I want to plug and chug numbers, the TI-36X is now my go to calculator. Most of the time, the TI N-Spire just made things take longer to do. Even turning the thing on takes longer. It was like the N-Spire CAS did so much, that it was just in its own way. At that point its in my way. I need to take a class on how to use it. I bought an instructional book and its like 500 pages thick. Matrices; I gave up and grabbed my TI-84. The TI 36X to me is just a higher end, plain old scientific calculator. It doesnt graph, which is kind of its thing because it does just about everything else. Diff Eq., Systems of Eq., vectors (dot and cross products), Integrals, derivatives, blah, blah, blah. It just doesnt have a graphing function. If youre kind of past that, then this will do you just fine. If you dont need it, but need something with more higher end functions, then this is good. I came from a TI-84 and used it for everything for years. It was fine. I thought the N-spire was a step up, but I personally have found that I just need a solid, predictable, easy calculator, and this 36X seems to fit the bill. I motor through Thermodynamics, Physics-2 and Differential equations now no problem. That makes me happy. Its light, its solar, its got a little bigger screen than most, and its easy. Oh, and really cheap at $20! Thats 15% of what I paid for my TI N-Spire CAS. Unless we can work out our differences through better communication and counseling, I have a feeling there is going to be a N-Spire CAS divorce here soon...

I bought this calculator for the FE exam. Until then I used a TI-83 graphing calculator, and since then I have only used this TI-36x. Thats how great it is. The muti-line display is great. You can also scroll through previous calculations, even after pressing clear. Its great for multi-step calculations. The operations on this calculator are really intuitive. If youre calculating integrals, it gives you an integral symbol to plug your limits and equation into. Same with square roots, fractions, exponents, everything. It will also do things like statistics models, where it asks for the inputs one at a time. It solves matrices, converts units, takes cross products, solves systems of equations, has useful constants pre-loaded, does combinations and permutations... I just wish I had bought this calculator sooner. It just takes a few minutes of playing around to find all these features. I just have two minor complaints: 1) the fraction/decimal toggle button is right beneath the addition button, where Im used to the enter button being. When I was first using the calculator I would often push that button by mistake at the end of the calculation. It doesnt actually DO anything in that case, so I would just have to delete the symbol and press enter. Now that Im used to the calculator, I hardly ever make this mistake. 2) If the input or series of calculations is longer than the width of the screen, the calculator will just continue pushing the line to the right, rather than continuing on the next line. It just makes it so that I cant see my whole input on the screen and I have to scroll back through to review. GREAT calculator for science or engineering majors. If youre buying it for the FE or PE, make sure you give yourself a few weeks to play around with it and get used to all the features and where to find them. Skim the users manual too, so youre aware of all the awesome things this beauty can do.

Let me start by saying Ive been using the TI-84 plus CE calculator for 7 years now. However, as a civil engineering student in university, Im not allowed to use that calculator in my classes or on my exams because it has too many features that does the work for me. I also cannot use it for my FE or PE exams when I want to get certified as an engineer. So I had to downgrade and buy this one. If youre a civil engineering major, this is the next best calculator thats FE/PE certified. It has the most features and its the most similar to the newer calculator versions. After being so familiar with a calculator for 7 years, its hard to switch to another one. But it only took me a minute or two of fiddling around with the 36-X PRO before I got the hang of the different buttons and command locations. I also LOVE that I dont have to worry about charging it! I cant count the amount of times I would sit down in class or at home and take out my 84 plus CE for an assignment or homework and it would be out of battery. It was such a pain to remember to charge it. Note: Even if youre not an engineering major, and youre just in high school or college, get this calculator! I started using my TI-84 plus CE in 8th grade and these types of calculators are a lifesaver. Itll help you in the long run and save you a lot of time and effort instead of using a scientific calculator. It has so many useful functions can really help you when youre on crunch time in an exam or something like that. 10/10!

I love this calculator!!! Ive had it since Sept/2011. Before this calculator I had the TI-89 and loved how it could do anything I could want it to do. With knowing that I would be unable to use this calculator on the FE, I decided to buy one that they would allow so I would be use to it before the exam. I originally took the advice of a friend and went with a the Casio 115es. Being that I have had Ti products my whole life this was a huge learning curve. The calculator was nice but was not that user friendly! (almost felt like I needed a minor in programming to work it!) I was told that it would solve for variables but never could actually learn how to get it to do it. One day a friend in class showed me his Ti-36x pro and I was amazed at how easy it was to use! It did alot more then the Casio and was almost like having my Ti-89 back!! To be honest its easier then the 89 to operate and still solves for variables (along with alot of the other same functions). I have showed mine to my fellow classmates and they also fell in love with it. They always end up having me order them one. So far I have ordered 15 of these calculators and have not had one complaint out of any of them. I have tried almost all calculators allowed on the FE and this one is far ahead of the pack!!! Some Pros: The Biggest Pro is: Its pretty user friendly after you get sometime on it The ability to scroll through old computations See math expressions, symbols and stacked fractions exactly the way they appear in textbooks. Has nine physical constants programmed into it (like:Gravity, Speed of Light, Avogadros number, Ideal Gas Constant..) Has 18 Metric/English conversions Does integration and derivatives Gives you answers in decimals by default (unlike the Casio) but will convert to fractions If you turn it off and back on it still has your old calculations! (the Casio erases when it turns off!) If you are a TI user, you can easily adapt to this calculator. For the price you cant beat it!! I noticed one person gave it 2 stars. Let me just say, out of the 15 Ive ordered for people, I have yet to have one complaint!!! Cons NONE!!! If you are not allow to use a graphing calculator in your classes or you will be taking the FE one day, I recommend this calculator. It blows any other Scientific Calculator out the water!!!

Useful for land surveying classes and calculations. One thing I dislike is the cover. It’s not particularly a smooth process to get it on or off.

I own a TI-Nspire CX graphing calculator, but was looking for something a tad more simplistic for my physics 2 course. This calculator has been amazing for me. I am able to compute the different formulas for my class. The buttons are larger compared to my other calculator and I don’t have to worry about finding a cord to charge it. Overall, this TI-36X Pro is a very good calculator.
