> 24 hourSuper frustrating setup process which had to be repeated 3-4 times until it finally came online. Once I got my IP cameras connected to it, it worked only some of the time. This AP would be unavailable for 2 days at a time and then just mysteriously start working for a few hours. Updating the firmware just made the controller software unable to find the unit anymore. Id been rebooting it daily or twice daily to get it to work again for a few hours. I decided to live with the almost daily loss of AP signal, but then yesterday it died completely and would not come back online after cycling the power.

> 24 hourLots of helpful reviews on this already. Whereas I’ve had several of the frisbee shaped APs fail, I’ve not yet had one of these fail from natural causes. I’ve started using a couple more of them, hoping the outdoor capability means they last longer. True, their effective range is not nearly as good as the traditional saucer-shaped models. New information: there is a limit to how much outdoor moisture they can handle. Mine has been sheltered under a canopy, but the canopy tore in a rough storm and some water made it up from the bottom, and it’s clearly done for. I’m not knocking the product, it was indeed a rough storm, but it didn’t seem to take much water blowing in through the bottom to take it out, unless there was something else happening. I’ll still buy another…

> 24 hourI love Ubiquiti products. If you know how to set them up, they just work. This is an upgrade from the Nano units we have been using for bridging, mostly because the Nanos are on 10/100 base and these have gig cards. The throughput is faster overall. They work indoor and outdoor, and we install these units all over the place.

> 24 hourFirst - Do not purchase this without watching the videos from Toasty Answers on u-tube for the UniFi AP first-time setup. Even as an engineer, I couldnt get this running with his video. The setup instruction are terrible. And forget contacting them. Second - This is NOT plug-n-play unless youve already setup a UniFi system and other hardware already. Third - This is business-level hardware so be prepared to spend way more time in setup in the controller software. If you read online about requiring a dedicated server running, that is only true if you want to monitor or change things. Note - unlike a retail router you can get anywhere, the hardware is dumb and requires the controller for firmware updates, settings, and SSID/pwd changes and that is why the iOS doesnt work without a dedicated virtual server running.

> 24 hourThis piece of equipment has become an expensive piece of junk quite simply because I cant find the software required to download that matches this particular model number.

> 24 hourI have 5 of these deployed over about a 20 acre property. Once you get them set up, the range is awesome and the UniFi mgt system is great. Once you get them set up. Because I am deploying remote units, I do the initial setup at the main router before I deploy them. This turns out to be tricky. Here is what I found works for both mesh and wired uplinks. 1) Open the box and connect the unit to your network via ethernet. UniFi will discover it and have you adopt it and upgrade the firmware. 2) Once the firmware update is done, do a factory reset (paperclip useful) on the unit so it forgets it had a wired up link 3) Unplug the unit and go back to the UniFi interface. Go to the device configuration and select Forget this device If you dont do that, UniFi puts you in a death loop of connecting and disconnecting endlessly after you have moved the unit to, say, the top of a water tank. Sigh. 4) Deploy the unit where you will (wired or wireless) and UniFi will rediscover it. Then you can adopt it into the network. Wireless adoption takes some time - like 5 minutes. Wired is faster. 5) Then make any other config changes you want If you skip the forget the device step, you will not be able to connect the device the network, nor do any configuration. Note that in order to get to the forget device menu item, the device needs to be unplugged from the network. If it is still in the death loop trying to connect, the forget device option is not available. This is not an unusual use model and Ubiquiti should make this much easier. I returned a unit before I figured this all out. I assumed because it wouldnt connect wired or wireless after a factory reset that it was broken.

> 24 hourI might have received a defective unit but this device will not receive an IP Address from DHCP. My return window is now closed so I cant return it. I didnt have time to try the device before and now is too late. Make sure to test yours immediately. When connected to my home router, which is running DHCP and handing out IP Addresses to my other devices, this AP will not receive an IP Address ( No activity light on the router when the AP is connected to it). I tried connecting to the device via its default IP Address (192.168.1.24) and cannot connect either. Very disappointed with this product and cannot recommend it for home use.
