Excellent and affordable scanner. I use it to monitor local police/fire chatter, and it does a great job. The close call feature is also fun and automatically hones in on any strong signals that you might not be actively looking for. You hear some fun/random stuff that way. Plenty of customization options available with multiple scanner banks and plenty of programmable channels. Buy with 2300mAh batteries so you can recharge the unit and take it around with you. Runs on AC power if connected via supplied USB cable, but youll need to provide a wall adapter to power from a traditional outlet. Most people have plenty of these laying around from iPhones, etc. Only feature this unit does not have is the ability to save channels with text labels, to easily identify where the transmissions are coming from. For that feature youll have to up a model to the slightly more expensive bearcat.

This syncs to your pc and allows you to easily and quickly fill all the banks with custom freq sets you can create and store on your pc. Battery will last a whole day of nascar which is what I bought it for, but no more than that so stock up on batteries. Wish the controls were quicker to use. Assigning priorities and switching banks is a pain.

There is nothing wrong with the actual device. Im using it to listen to railroad communications. I live about 3.5 miles from the rail lines and I get a decent signal after adding a different antenna. Its easy enough to carry in my car when Im at the tracks taking video or photos. The instructions are a little vague so I watched some YouTube videos and that helped out a lot. Im using regular Amazon brand AA batteries and am getting a decent run time. I also live next to a small airport so I can listen to some of the communications from the small aircraft. The issues I have are that most of the police/fire departments around my area have gone digital and thus, this wont work for them. So again, there is nothing wrong with the actual device. Just know what your area has before you get caught up in the Police, Fire advertising/description and avoid disappointment. I havent really had any good luck with weather info and quite frankly its just easier to use my smartphone to get actual weather information. So I dont see that as a selling point either. I do wish there was a way to have the back-light of the screen to be on longer than it is. Too often its hard to see what the station is when Im using the search mode to then lock in that station. Overall, its a decent enough first time scanner for me.

The radio is fine and a decent price. It does not function on a trunk system so if your emergency services are using a trunk or digital system you will need a more advanced radio. I should have done more research before choosing which radio to purchase since I needed the more advanced model. That said, returning it was hassle free and the other radio is already being processed. Cant give it 5 stars since I never was able to really use it other than to listen into some HAM operators and the Weather Broadcasts.

I bought this with the intention of listening to the ATC frequencies at the airports near me. I programmed all the frequencies into this so now it will scan through them automatically until one has a signal. I can also manually switch through them as well. It worked very well while I was at the airport and I was able to pick up everything I had programmed into it. Im still not entirely sure how to use this. I know there has to be a feature to manually key in a station, I either havent figured it out, or the channels I keyed in werent broadcasting at the time. I like it and think it works very well. It does take a little effort to set up, and your computer wont recognize it when its plugged in. When youre in the program on the computer to program the channels, theres a command to send the presets to the device. This works regardless of if the computer has recognized it or not. I also like that I can save the file with all the presets. Since I have other friends into plane spotting, I can send them the file with all the ORD frequencies programmed already.

I bought this to replace my old Bearcat scanner with 200 channels. I am a crew chief for a race team in SCCA so I need a scanner that I can lock down a channel and adjust the volume with out looking at it. This unit has volume, squeak, and SEL all on one knob, just last week on Homestead I had to adjust the volume and it change the channel not the volume. Bottom line if you use this to list to the track in one ear and your driver in the other ear, this is not the unit for you.

This scanner doesnt leave my house so I dont know what it would work like away from an outlet the battery only stays charged for about 6 hours so I keep it plugged in at all times I had to have a professional program it, it picks up a lot of ham operators those channels if youre not interested in that kind of stuff like I am not all had to be locked out but if you like that then you might like that part about it I did not

I bought 2 of these which were said to be used. They were brand new, still in the box. One still had teh plastic across the face, and the other didnt. Both worked amazing from the start and work BETTER than my Realistic Pro107. I put a stronger antenna (less than $4 on ebay) and can pick up over 50 miles away! I love the computer program feature which got me over 200 channels. I can now pick up everything in the surrounding area and can hear the ambulances! I also pick up fire, railroad traffic, and all the police, county sheriff, and highway patrol. Im beyond happy with my purchase from Amazon!

Nice little scanner that does the job - so far, so good. The instructions are very detailed, so you have to pay attention to them in order to get the scanner up and running properly. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the features before jumping in and trying to make it work. If you jump right in, you will become frustrated very quickly. Also, the antenna that comes with it did not pick up any reception in my location. I picked up the UpBright 16 Dual Band antenna, hooked it up and it picked up reception instantly.

my old nascar scanner, the enter button broke. so i had to break down and get a new one. this one was easy to load, and i got all my frequencies in there, but i did have to pull out the owners manual to remember how to change presets. im kinda tech-savy, so i feel like it should be a bit more intuitive, but i guess i should just know that things like this are a bit above where im used to. we did have some interference, and im hoping next time, with an upgraded antenna, that wont be a problem.
