Booklet directions are hard to follow. Radio is stuck in tune mode and cannot change out to default. Directions not clear as how to proceed.

This is good little HT. No bells or whistles but thats what I wanted. I have to say its a step up from a Baofeng (not that there bad) . The build quality is good, not that hard to program even using the keys. I have a roll up slim jim antenna hanging from the pull chain of my ceiling fan and can hit repeaters 15+ miles away.

The Radio came brand new in original box with all accessories the only thing is that price what is too high cause they usually sell for 89 dollars at buy two way radio and ham radio stores the only reason I bought it here is cause I had some Amazon gift card or els I would have bought somewhere els for a better price I even called yaesu and told them that they we’re selling this item way to expensive on Amazon they were going to look into that well other than that everything seems to work just fine I also did the Mars mod on it and it unlocked right away so I’m happy about that

Very nice radio for the money

I think Yaesu may have stepped back from quality to try to compete in price. This radio looks and feels like it was made by one of the Chinese cheap manufacturers - it seriously resembles one of the BaoFeng radios. It purports to do Split tone, but Ive yet to get it to work. There are grammatical errors in the programming software and the settings dont match up with those of the radios front panel programming. On the plus side, checking it with a spectrum-analyzer, the RF is very clean, modulation (WB and NB) meet specs, the frequency stability (with fully charged batteries) is spot on (better than 0.5ppm both VHF and UHF), RX sensitivity is excellent (better than 0.25uV for 12dB SINAD on both bands). Physically, it doesnt feel as tough as its older brother, the FT-60, and the charger supplied with it is really cheap and light - not to say its bad, just doesnt have that solid Yaesu Feel. Ultimately, I have returned the radio. Tone Squelch only works with the strongest (Full quieting) signals, this product is not up to Yaesus standards, they should be ashamed to market it.

Like any similar device I had to read the manual twice to fully understand how to manually program repeaters, etc. Otherwise the memory and VFO modes are intuitive to set up and operate. The speaker sound quality is very good and plenty loud for my purposes. Lastly I had no problem hitting a repeater three towns away using 5W and the rubber ducky antenna. I do plan on getting a longer antenna that is better suited for 2 meter operation.
