> 3 dayCella is a soft shaving soap from Italy thats been around since 1899. If you havent tried it, you might want to look at the little red 150 gram container first. A kilogram is one humongous chunk of shaving soap, enough for about three years of daily use. Cella is tallow based, with a neutral almond scent, and its known for producing mountains of lather. Physically, the soap is very soft, like putty or lard. I just used a spoon to scoop out what I wanted into a bowl and pushed it down with my fingers. The rest I left in the plastic bag it came in, then vacuum sealed that inside another bag. Ive tried three dozen or more shaving soaps and creams, but my standbys are Cella, Mitchells Wool Fat Soap, and Tabac. Its hard to say which is best, but Cella is the cheapest.

Wet Shaver
> 3 dayI have been wet shaving for 8 years and have tried many different shave soaps, Caties Bubbles, Toja (stick and tube), Speick, Halsinger, Geo. F. Trumpers, Nivea, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Fine, Phoenix, Arko, etc. Cella and Phoenix outperform all other soaps. At $0.70/ounce (I bought my Cella brick for $24.95) this is by far the least cost soap that also happens to be the best soap on the market. I purchased over a year ago and cut the brick into 9 pieces. Sealed them in individual sandwich bags and then sealed them all in a ziplock bag and stuck them in the freezer. I let a chunk warm up for an hour or so and then smoosh it into my Old Spice shave mug. The soap is as fresh as the day I bought it. Light almond/cherry smell with a thick lather. The soap is thirsty so dont shake much water out of your brush before loading. Great post-shave feel. Now what to do with all my other shave soaps...

18-04-2025Great product! I have used this for over a year now and can attest that, after some initial trial and error, Im able to get terrific shaves. I can achieve a very nice lather every time with a standard badger brush. The almond scent is pleasant and has thus far only gotten me compliments. I was a bit concerned with the size and that itd go rancid or even moldy before I managed to use it all, but so far its holding up without any noticeable quality degradation. This makes it a super good value if you can afford the initial cost and (tennis shoe size) storage space . If the quality and (relative) price remains the same over time, then I see no reason why Id every switch. Given the long history of the soap, Ill probably never have to. Fingers crossed.

> 3 dayCella is an Italia shave soap that is fairly soft and has a mild almond scent. It took a day or two to get the feel for the right amount of water to use in lathering it, but once I had that down, it produces a slick and thick lather that really gives a great shave. The one kilo block is a great value per shave. It is likely to last well over a year. I look forward to my morning shave knowing that I am using Cella.

> 3 dayTLDR: If you experience ANY TINGLING OR BURNING sensation while using this soap WASH IT OFF IMMEDIATELY and relather with a different soap, or be even more cautious and terminate your shave for the day. I have experienced PERSISTING SKIN SENSITIVITY after using this soap for a single shave. I preface this review with the fact that I dont write many of these and almost no negative reviews despite being a very longtime Amazon customer. However I feel compelled to speak up in this case. I generally use regular Barbasol aerosol foam and a DE razor. But I also face lather with Arko sticks and a boar brush if Im feeling like I want to take a little more time and enjoy myself. However with so much more time due to the COVID-19 situation I decided to branch out a bit and bought this big block of Cella tallow soap thinking it would probably be similar to Arko. I like an almond scent which was another reason I chose this soap. By way of background: for bath purposes Ive used Ivory bar soap for 30+ years. Ive used Dr. Bronners almond soap, both liquid and solid -- but mostly liquid for the last 20+ years for bath, but mostly dishes and utility purposes but in any case in direct contact on my bare skin without incident. I also have eaten raw and roasted almonds for my entire life -- to this day -- without any reaction or problem whatsoever. I state all this to indicate that I dont favor particularly mild soaps or have any issue with almond soaps. I also have occasionally used Noxema on my face and dont mind a strong tingly soaps, per se. That said, the very first time I used this Cella soap with a boar brush I started to feel a tingling around my mouth and lips before I even started shaving. By the end of the first pass, using my usual DE razor with a very common blade that works well for me, the prickly burning sensation around my mouth was very strong. I applied a second coat of lather and started a second pass, but about halfway through I realized that something very bad was happening to my face/skin. I stopped the second pass after only one side of my face and rinsed the soap off. But even afterwards the burning persisted and while it felt like me skin and lips were burned and puffing up, there was no visible signs of burning or damage. This prickliness and tingling lasted 3-4 days, but with no signs of rash or damage. I have never experienced anything like this with any skincare product. It seemed almost like a neurological effect, such as capsaicin might produce, rather than an actual chemical burn. It has now been two weeks since that shave and I still notice sensitivity even while shaving with my standard soaps (Arko and Barbasol) around my mouth and lips. I find I must shave faster than previously and rinse the soap off quickly to avoid a burning sensation. While it is lessening with time, the fact that a single application of Cella caused such a persistent reaction made me want to warn others of this possibility. I am hoping this skin sensitivity will continue to decrease and also that I can save others the experience I have had.

> 3 dayCella in the one kilo box for some reason is different than the Cella in the little tub. Much better quality and over-all performance. One of the best soft shaving soaps on the market. I cut off a part in placed in a small glass pyrex bowl with lid. The rest I placed in a freezer zip lock bag but did not put it in the freezer, just stored it in a cabinet in the batch. Thats all you have to do it keep it fresh.

> 3 dayCELLA shaving soap is by far the best I have ever used. It creates a wonderful lather that makes shaving a pleasure. Like one reviewer has said: Kiss the canned goop and expensive pucks goodbye forever. All you have to do is slice off the block what you need and put the remainder inside a hard plastic container with a cover. Store in the lower section of your refrigerator...I love this CELLA product!
