Corel Painter Essentials 5 Digital Art Suite for PC and Mac (Old Version)

I originally owned Painter essentials 4, and feel that 5 had really dropped the ball. A lot of features that were essential to 4 have been changed or disappeared entirely which is annoying and makes it very hard to work with. I will keep looking at tutorials to try and see if I could be wrong about them missing, but I dont have a ton of hope. Honestly, if your going to spend your money to draw, buy Painter 4 instead, it was a way better program.

I is a good value program for generating simulated paintings from photos automatically. i have not learned how to make manual edits of photos.

This is a great starting point if you want to see what you can do and if you really want to put effort into art.

Corel Painter Essentials 5 has raised the bar on making art using mind boggling algorithms that mimic real watercolor, oils, pencil, and a million other ways of expressing. Attached to this review is a video of creating a watercolor impression of my cat. You will notice that I created a layer over the background and turned on tracing paper. Then I create rough trace of where I would like to paint. After the trace if completed, I created another layer where the actual watercolor painting is done. The rough trace really makes a big difference how the watercoloring is applied. Theres an auto watercolor feature, but I think without a human applied trace the final result may not look so good. At the end I can turn off the tracing layer to see the final result. It does take a bit of work to get the result to where you want it to be--changing brush sizes, amount of brushing applied, etc. all contribute to how you want the final result to look like.

No idea if its the product, but it appears to be. It wont load on my system even though it is the same version indicated on the box. Total waste of money

The software arrived, asked for a serial number and all options on the package, the DVD and the insert were invalid. Attempts to contact Corel for a remedy have not been forthcoming. I asked that I have the option of actually speaking to tech support for help as their support website and phone number does not offer this option, I would love to download the software but if not satisfied by the morning I will be sending it back and never bother with Corel in the future, I am quite disappointed.
