Epson Home Cinema 3200 4K PRO-UHD 3-Chip Projector with HDR

Works quite well right out of the box. There are some issues getting focus perfect in all areas of the screen, but installation went really quick to replace older 720p DLP ceiling mount unit in the same spot. The flexibility of the throw distance made this the right choice. Wide range on optics for zoom and lens shift allow it to go right up. However, as discussed in some forums, it obviously wants a perfectly perpendicular lens geometry for accurate focus. Any down tilt for ceiling throw off keystone and thus requires minor compromise on perfection. I may have to lower the mount to get this right. However, that said for the money this does seem to a sweet spot right now. I wish I waited a few more days because it looks like it is about to break some more on the price, making it even sweeter. I expect that trend to continue over the next few weeks.

Easy setup, quiet, beautiful picture quality with PS4 Update: 1 month in and it has a pixel in the middle of the display that is stuck on red. Lowering the rating due to this quality issue. I never had this issue with my old BenQ projector.

I recently upgraded my Optima and this was a great choice. A little bigger (heavier) than the previous projector. But the image quality and especially sound (very quiet) was well worth the price. I love the colors and blacks. I use it in my sunroom (with darkening shades), but it is even presentable in the daylight. But at night or a darken room is where it really shines. Good investment for movie night and general tv watch with an Apple tv.

I think how you feel about this projector will depend largely on what you use it for. As a 4K video projector, and for the price, it is a reasonably good deal. I picked my 3200 up on sale at BestBuy. You will find the contrast unsatisfactory for dark scenes unless you have a blacked-out, light controlled room. Of course, good contrast always requires a blacked out room, but even so, the blacks on this are dark gray. For example, when playing Assassins Creed Origins, I cannot see my way around a crypt without having all other lights in the room off. HDR is not very noticeable, but is adjustable. You will notice the auto-iris kick in a moment after scene changes some times (this is Epsons attempt to make up for the lower contrast levels of this projector). I can live with this, happily, if the projector is only used for video. The projector is incredibly bright. No issues there. The crappy contrast may go unnoticed in a room without light control. In my basement, with no windows, I find it very bright in ECO mode, even nearly 1000 hours in. The lens shift feature blew my mind, and hugely simplifies installation without having to mess with keystone correction, which leaves the trapezoidal gray/black light around your picture. The worst part of this projector is focus. With video you may not notice, but since Ive been working from home for the last few months of COVID, I use this as a 142 monitor for programming, several hours a day every day. It is _impossible_ to get even focus across the screen with text. You can have one area sharp and another area dreadfully blurry, or you can have the entire thing slightly out of focus and rub your eyes all day long. Lest you think it may be caused by imperfections in my screen, or not having the projector perfectly centered...I can put a piece of paper in the out-of-focus area and walk back towards the projector 4-5 feet before that text is in focus. So, it isnt due to flatness of the screen. Tech support: Epson tech support has been good. When I finally bought and mounted a screen to verify it wasnt due to my uneven wall, they happily replaced my projector with a refurbished one via 2-day fedex, prepaid both ways. Unfortunately, the refurb was even worse for focus issues and had light scratches on the lens, so they overnighting a brand new one. The focus issue persists, so it seems to be common for this line -- or my setup is inexplicably wrong somehow. Epson does not have a way to trade-in/upgrade to something better, so Ill probably have to try to sell it on my own and take a loss. So, overall - acceptable for the price for movie night. Not acceptable for computer work. If you can afford to spend a little more for something closer to true 4K, with better focus and contrast, Id recommend doing so. **Update** I have been ceiling mounting this projector to keep it out of the way of people and reduce shadows from the same. The lens shift that was so delightful, seems to be a contributor to the focus issue. Switching to keystone correction instead of lens shift helps the focus, but it is still an issue. Also, keystone correction throws off the aspect ratio so the image no longer fits the screen - its either too wide, or I have to leave small dark strips at the top and bottom of the image. Finally, I unmounted the projector, put it in tabletop mode, and stacked boxes under it so the image is perfectly centered with no keystone and no lens shift. The center is stunning, but the side is STILL out of focus. Ive included a couple pictures from the panel alignment mode to show the focus difference from center to top-right (tabletop mode) when the projector is perfectly centered on a flat, professional screen.

We placed the unit about 18’ away from the screen wall, and the diagonal is about 160”. Even stretched to this size it is as clear or better than my 70” flatscreen! Never expected it to look this good.

If the higher end versions are priced out of range for you, this 3800 model might be in your wheel house. If you are looking for a better than average 4K TV, this is probably the area you want to look. The picture quality is superb. Very impressive for a projector. What I like most about it is the versatility in its projection size. So no matter what room size you are sitting in, this Epson 4K projector will accommodate the size needed, whether on a wall or a screen. It is 3D capable, but you need to buy the accessories to accommodate it, but it can handle displaying. There are various audio inputs to use for sound bars or speakers to maximize the theater experience. While the unit is pretty big, its not improbably to move it around with careful handling for certain occasions, such as an outdoor viewing. There are a lot of features within to tune it to your home environment and displays well even in the daytime. Overall, if the other projectors are a little too much, I would go for this one as you will find the quality very comparable and worthy of show-off rights.

Beautiful 4K & HDR picture quality in this price range!! Still using 9 yr old HDMI cable between projector & AVR with good results. Planning on upgrading HDMI soon, cant wait :-)..

Picture is very clear on our wall even without a screen. Sound quality is actually impressive. Greet purchase love it. We have this on our Xbox too which is amazing.

Just buy it, but plan on having Netflix premium. You wont want to watch anything that is not Ultra HD 4K. I painted the wall with Behr silver screen from home depot. I have 134 inch picture in a 12 foot room. The picture quality is beyond amazing. I just hope this thing lasts for a while.

Anyone who is interested in the HC3800 should purchase one. I bought this projector at the start of Covid. It was an upgrade to a Mitsubishi 3800 1080p. Ironically the model number was the same. The 3800 was chosen at the time because the 5050UB was out of range price wise. The 3800 also got good reviews which helped in the decision. It was used for 2 years in my dedicated light controlled theater. Great picture. I upgraded to a 6050UB that a friend sold me for half price. The HC 3800 was moved to the living room where there is limited light control. The picture is phenomenal as far as a projected image in daylight can be. We are using a 100” Akia Cinewhite 1.1 gain screen. The Epson cuts through the ambient light producing a vibrant and colorful image. We run in ECO mode because the projector is used 14 hours / day. Even so my wife complains the image is too bright sometimes.
