Have an old house and needed to test outlets. It works well and would buy again.

The unit works well and appears to be well-made. But I deducted one star because, as other reviewers have reported, the label does not clearly distinguish between on (yellow) and off (white) indicators. Indeed, when I first used the unit, I thought it was not working correctly. There is, however, a quick and easy fix -- just take a black marker and black out the off (white) indicators on the label. After doing so, the unit is a good addition to my toolbox.

I was playing my electric guitar in my basement a couple months ago when I felt a mild tingle in my hands. After reading up and considering getting my amplifier repaired, I decided to spend a few bucks on a tester first. I found out that despite having three prongs, none of the outlets in the basement are grounded. If I knew that before I bought the house, I would have made the seller fix it. This tester works great, is easy to read, and is very inexpensive.

Tried it on a few different wiring orientations, and on GFCI outlets. Everything works as advertised, and indicates wiring problems accurately. Had it for almost a year, and it still comes in handy.

This is a great tool for the Convenient Store refrigeration guy, or anyone else just looking to confirm proper ground/power situation. A quick diagnosis and simple to understand. I have a few of these and they all still perform well. Gave them to my Service Techs as gifts, and saves time. Especially up here in the Northeast, where lots of folks do their own wiring the Yankee way... nuff said???

This tool has helped reinforce the fact that I have no clue what Im doing when it comes to electrical work! This is a must for DYIers like myself. I used this tool to confirm I royally screwed up the grounding for all the outlets in my house when I changed them to 3 prong outlets.

It does what it suppose to but you need to use it with a non contact voltage detector as a 2nd tester. All these type of testers does the same thing. Some better than others and this one does a great job but none detects if the plug is a reverse bootleg (reverse polarity with the ground connected to the hot line). It will show as correct but it really isnt. Thats where you need a non contact voltage detector. A reverse bootleg will have the entire receptical electrified/hot and using a voltage detector will beep when you get close to the receptical when it should only beep when you stick it to the hot slot. If this happens call an electrican to fix it or fix it yourself if you know what you are doing.
