The grand prix maps are exactly the same?! Was expecting more in that area. There are new carts, wheels, and gliders however, as well as characters. The reason this gets 4 stars is the battle modes! They are hilarious, especially when playing with friends. I think a fair price wouldve been $30-40 but they are slow to release games on the switch right now and Ive been playing Mario kart since the n64. The HD graphics are fantastic and the portability is amazing. I have to use the pro controller the small ones are hard with my big hands. The COMs seem to be smarter and more difficult vs the Wii U version. It was a fun challenge and always a hoot to rewind the highlight reel and see how you dropped from 1st to 8th on the last lap 5 seconds away from the finish line lol

Really good game! Worth the money! If there’s a Nintendo switch game I’d save up for its this one! Lots of fun, you get to chose from over 50 Nintendo characters and over 8 courses. Controls are smooth easy to learn, and it really takes you back to when you were younger. Graphics are very high quality, no glitches at all. So in all if you are a HUGE Nintendo, Mario fan. Save up for this awesome game ❤️

Having skipped the Wii U, I hadnt played Mario Kart since the version on the Wii. I got this the day it released and have been having a blast since. This is the best version yet. Its great having all of the characters and tracks unlocked from the outset. The item distribution remains infuriating especially if youre leading the race, but thats part of the Mario Kart charm, I suppose. The AI difficulty really ramps up at 150-200cc, and totally amplifies item rage when youre inevitably targeted by blue or red shells in the last lap of a race. Additionally, online play has been fun, but not without occasional connectivity issues. Although those have largely improved since launch.

A very good port/update of Mario Kart 8 and all of its DLC. Looks great in 1080p, and the new auto-accelerate option saves my right thumb from some pain. The new guidance option also makes it possible for my daughters (2 and 5) to play alongside me, and they have a lot of fun being able to race and throw items around without falling off the track all of the time. In addition, since the Switchs JoyCon use joysticks instead of d-pads, I can stop using motion controls for steering across the board, which I had to pick up for Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8, due to the controller types that I had available. This is just a preference, though, as the motion controls are reliable for this game, as well.

The game went over very well and can network with the full size Switch for game play. What I was less excited about was having to secure a separate process to actually network the system so my two children can play from the different devices.

I know this is basically a port from Wii U but it is still a family favorite. Nothing like my wife, son and myself sitting down dueling it out. Graphics are great, controls work well and the game no matter you are playing is just fun. Easy to learn for our young kid! I love the nostalgia as the game uses old levels from different versions, some of my favorites included which makes it that more fun! Lots of characters to pick from! A game that never gets boring!

This game will steal hours of your life in the best way possible. It is SO much fun to play with a group of friends and I love all the different tracks from Mario Kart versions of the past. This is one of the best Switch games in my opinion- very much worth the money!

Ive played a lot of Mario Kart over the years and this is probably my second favorite behind the DS version. Starting with the Wii version they added gimmicks (like zero gravity and underwater) that dont really enhance the game in my view, and the courses got a little softer and less exciting (compare Bowsers Castle and Luigis Mansion to the DS versions). The drifting mechanic is good and the countless kart / wheel combinations can make a big difference in handling. I find its best to stick to one thing for a while. I like the coin system. The items are a bit too familiar to me at this point. I dont think Nintendo can do much more to improve on this game. Hopefully any follow-up will be a dramatic departure from the current formula.
