I like my original carbon Companion so much that when I found that Mora was making the HD I bought two. I favor carbon steel over stainless steel. Its tougher and more flexible than stainless steel. My main camp knives are Cold Steel Recon Scout and Trail Master; both SK5 carbon, but theyre unwieldy for small tasks. Enter the Mora Companion. Its Scandi grind gives it an edge over other grinds when it comes to batoning, too; yet it will slice a tomato and feather a stick. A bit of use and the blade takes on an aged patina that actually resists rust. Just wipe it dry before sheathing. The thicker blade is the only difference of the HD from the original Companion. In the pictures is the shiny new HD and my used original Companion. IMHO, this is the knife for ultralight packing or on a budget. Try one on for size. It may turn out the best $17 piece of kit youll never regret buying. The Mora Companion HD can do everything but chop. For that I bring a noif; Cold Steel Recon Scout or Trail Master. Now theres a noif.

I just got this in a few days ago and I havent had a chance to test it out yet but its super sharp. It shaved the hair off my arm straight out of the box. Ill update as soon as I get a chance to test it out

Excellent knife for an even better price! Steel is equivalent to 1095 which is a proven steel thats been around over a century! If you want a good camp/outdoors knife for a budget price, look no further. You will be pleased with the Mora Companion Carbon!

I wanted to get his/her knives for Valentines Day gifts so, I chose this one for myself and the Companion, in Magenta Color, for my wife. Amazon shipping, once again, did a fine job! Straight Out of the box review: I purchased this particular knife as I had searched various knife/outdoorsman sites plus, sifted through Amazon reviews to find a knife that would meet several practical characteristics at a good value. Mora overwhelmingly has won over a majority of folks and you can now count me into the mix since my initial impression. First, as someone who does some hiking, camping and possibly, some backpacking, I wanted a knife solid enough to be of use in all of these categories, while staying within my budget. I do not baton or chop with my knives, but, I wanted one that could possibly handle some light work in either area. The thicker blade appears to be up to the task, for all of these purposes. It is still sufficiently lightweight enough to either carry in a pack or on your side. Though it says heavy duty, that is mainly meant in comparison to the regular Mora Companion. Second, I live in Texas where gun laws are loose but, knife laws, not so much, go figure. Therefore, the legal length of my blade cannot exceed 5.5 for EDC. Hence, the 4.1 blade of this knife was appealing to me. I am pleased with, both, its length and its width for durability and versatility. Third, my hands, while not huge, are still fairly large, so, I wanted a beefier handle to fit them well. This HD Companion fits perfect along with utilizing material that could maintain its grip in wet weather. Fourth, aesthetics are also important to me, as well as functionality, so, the color of the knife handle and sheath spelled outdoorsman with the combination of military green and black. While I prefer a wood handle, this grip is actually more conducive to wet climates. I gave it four stars due to it being a carbon steel as opposed to stainless steel, as I do not desire my blades to rust. I also like the blades to maintain their shine. However, the carbon steel will hold its sharpness longer, so, that is a worthy trade out. (I can easily purchase another Mora with a Stainless Blade). The lack of a full tang and leather sheath also took it down a notch. I do like the plastic sheath much better than I thought, though. It compliments the knife well, the knife snaps in securely into place and should do well in wet environments. My plan is to update this after a year as too many knives are reviewed without really putting them to the test with regular usage. Unless one is a mere collector, the point of owning a knife is to utilize them. Stay tuned.

I own many knives. I own survival, kitchen, utility, garden, pocket, all in various degrees of quality in terms of the steel and craftsmanship. Because of this, the most expensive knife I own is about $450 and the cheapest $5 (chinese stainless steal, where everything is worthless). This blade cost me $14. It is razor sharp, it cuts paper right out of the box. It holds its edge for long periods of time without any maintenance, which beats out many blades I own that cost over $100. Its made in Sweden out of high carbon steel and therefore comes with the Scandinavian style single bevel edge, which makes it the easiest knife I own to sharpen, as its factory angled at 10-12 degrees, which means, lay flat on the stone, tilt slightly forward, and push. These MoraKnivs are perfect for everything, one of my best discoveries thanks to a good friend I met on top of a large mountain. Nowadays, when Im going on a long wilderness camping trip, I throw two Moras in my pack before I even think to do anything else, and I curse myself for ever investing in those over priced and sensationally overhyped survival knives (see tom brown tracker). I cannot recommend Moraknivs highly enough, you cannot go wrong.

A Swedish made knife for this price? Amazing. Just remember to wipe some mineral oil on it to protect the carbon steel.
