NIKON NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Standard Zoom Lens for Nikon Z Mirrorless Cameras

This is the sharpest 24-70mm zoom lens I have used. It beats its f4 brother. Contrast and colour rendition are excellent and chromatic aberration is negligable. If anybody is thinking of buying this lens, dont think anymore, go ahead and buy one.

This lens lives up to all the online reviews. Awesome image quality on the Z7 and Z6. I was a bit concerned about size/weight after reading some other reviews, particularly in comparison to the 24-70 f/4.0 S, which I also own. But coming from an F mount 24-70 f/2.8 on a DSLR, this lens is probably 20% smaller and lighter, and sits on the Z6/7 nicely without over powering it. It makes for a well balanced combination. Its solid but not overly big or heavy. If you demand the best quality, there is nothing about its size that should make you second guess buying this. I have a 14-30 that lives on my Z7, bu this one lives on my Z6!

I was amazed at the quality of the pictures. Sharpness is top notch till F16. At F22, diffraction takes a bite out of the sharpness, but who uses f22! Near distortion free. Amazing build quality. Not overtly big like the f mount version. Just the perfect lens for your everyday needs if you are a pro.

Over the years the cost of the fast aperture zooms has increased. These generally cover the range 24-70 and 70-200 as the most sort after F2.8 lenses. The Z mount is new and as such expect to pay a premium for glass that will last years as you develop your skills and change your Z mount body. You do get what you pay for with this lens, the quality is simply superb, it is super sharp across the range, and even wide at 24mm. The additional control rings and single function button can all be customised in the camera, further enhancing the usability of the lens. The screen is useful as a quick reference, it also provides accurate focal length display which can be useful for exact shots. It is supplied with a locking, felt lined hood, along with a soft storage cloth bag. Both the hood and lens are Made in Japan, and I would suggest you protect the front element with the best filter you can buy, you can find the Nikon ones for a reasonable cost on Amazon, or look at the Hoya range. Not a lot else to say, its another Nikon classic lens, with superb optical quality, but you do pay a premium.

I have used several 24-70 f/2.8 lenses over the years on full frame DSLRs. I also have the f/4 24-70 kit lens. The f/4 is as good as any of the Nikon F moiunt counter parts. The f/2.8 lens is better. The sharpest zoom in this range I have ever seen. Focus is fast and quiet..It is not a lightweight Z camera lens, but it is a superb quality lens.
