SAMSUNG 870 QVO SATA III SSD 8TB 2.5 Internal Solid State Drive, Upgrade Desktop PC or Laptop Memory and Storage for IT Pros, Creators, Everyday Users, MZ-77Q8T0B

I purchased this SSD to put into my Acer laptop as a secondary drive to the 512 GB M.2 which runs the Operating system. The M.2 had started to become a bit full as I havent yet been able to get video and lossless music backed up onto hard drives on my desktop system and I wanted to move them onto the secondary drive.

I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on cloning my hard drive to this new SSD, along with how to install it, and successfully did so about a week ago. I purchased my computer in 2016, so I guess that makes it old. After cloning and installation, I had a few issues when booting up so watched more videos on how to get into the BIOS screen; once I edited my booting sequence, it seemed okay. The next day when I turned the computer on after a complete shut down, I got the blue screen of death again, so (after more videos) I created a windows installation media device from a USB (from my other computer) and had to go through a bit more trouble shooting to finally get the computer to work properly (and still kept all the files on my drive! Yay me!). I was going to give 4 stars because my experience wasnt flawless, but Im not sure if that is due to the cloning software Samsung provides or something I did. My computer is old and now super fast - crossing fingers that it will continue working great for a few (many) more years! :)

My laptop boot faster then the mechanical hdd but I didn’t test the transfer files yet to judge the copy and past speed

Fit my 8 year old HP Probook 4540s perfectly and gave it new life. It is amazing how much faster my laptop is working now.

Having just recently bought a Playstation 4 Slim, I quickly became aware of the dilemma of storage. I read that PS4s officially support up to 2TB but people have been able able to use SSDs with much higher storage than that. Seeing that a 6TB SSD costs more than a brand new PS4 Pro, I decided to go with 4TB and hope for the best. Bottom line, it works fantastically and load times are almost a thing of the past. Im pretty confident Ill have enough storage for all the PS4 games I want, especially since Im more of a PS1 and PS2 guy at heart and those take up WAY less space.

Around 530M/sec read speed which is Standard for mainstream SATA3 ssd, as for the write speed it is a little bit tricky, this SSD has a 6-78G dynamic cache for 2TB and above models, a 42G cache for capacity below 2TB, before the cache been filled up the write speed is about 500M/sec, again it is comparable to other mainstream TLC/MLC SATA3 SSD, however, once the cache been used up write speed decrese sharply to 160M/sec for 2TB and above models, which is still a tad faster than most 7200rpm HDDs, but for models have less capacity the write speed is ONLY 80M/sec which is FAR worse than HDD even at 5400rpm! To make things worse, it took VERY long time to release the cache, I copied 650G files from my 4TB ssd into this one, the cache filled up only few secs in, the speed down to 160M/sec and stayed there for the rest of the time, it took a bit more than 1 hour to finish the transfer and it never done releasing its cache during that time. BTW, if you use sumsungs tool kit bechmark the drive it will gave higher numbers which I found less accurate, according to it mine was 561M/sec read 531M/sec write.

This lackluster star rating is not a reflection on the QVO product specifically, it applies to ALL SSDs with regard to the PS4 Pro.
