Starrett ProSite Miter Protractor Angle Finder with Two Laser Engraved Scales - Ideal for Carpenters, Plumbers, and DIY Home Improvement - 12 Aluminum - 505A-12

I bought this after reading all the favorable reviews, but my experience was quite different. The tool is a full degree off just from one side of the scale to the other. That is, one part of the scale reads 90 while another part of the same scale reads 89. Is it laser engraved? I cant say, but it certainly is not precision. If you are buying brand, this tool in no way resembles the quality machinists tools produced by Starrett in the past. I did email Starrett, but sadly got no response. Amazon has been great, they promptly exchanged the item for a replacement. The new one is just as bad, so I gave up.

This is a fine tool if you are doing alot of miter work. I do door and window casing, crown molding, cabinet installs and stair handrails. This tool will give you the edge to cut perfect inside and outside miters on walls that are not flat or square. Since most miter saw gauges only give you common miter settings in 5 degree increments this tool will let you accurately set your chop saw in one or two degree increments such as cutting stair handrails and pickets at 37 degrees. Where is that number on my chop saw gauge? Your chop saw must be setup accurately for this tool to work. Making test cuts on scrap is still the best way to check the accuracy of your miter.

I have been running trim for years, and we all know that there are no sq. corners in a house. We would have to cope the corners, cut, sand, dry fit, cope again and then after we have enough we say a little caulk hides the sin. NO MORE- this makes it painless. NO MORE daylight between joints. Get this if you are going to run any trim, if you are re-modeling-building something new- its fantastic. You will say just like i did where have you been all my life

Typical Starrett quality. Very well built, accurate, and easy to use. A great aid when doing crown molding and base. A real bargain at the sale price I picked it up at!

It is very easy to use and accurate. I use it on a daily basis and very happy with it.

Instead of humping a 10 foot length of moulding back and forth between the bedroom and the mitre saw in the garage, just pick up one of these Starrett protractors and get your angles cut perfect the FIRST TIME! A real time (and wall) saver. If I wouldve had one of these on my first moulding project, I probably wouldnt have had to repaint the hallway after dragging the mouldings back and forth in frustration.

I work on a lot of Victorian homes requiring lots of different angles, especially when Im trying to retro-fit new stock into an old spot. Old homes dont always have simple cuts and this tool makes work a lot easier.

Bought for my son. Small enough to carry with him as needed. He is a finish carpenter and frequently uses it!
