The factory dome light in my 2016 Tahoe illuminates the dash board more than the driver seat area. I occasionally have to complete forms on a clip board while sitting in the driver seat. The position of the factory dome lights meant that this was done in the dark. The Clipmate is attached to my driver visor. It illuminates the driver seat area perfectly, and stays out of the way when not in use. I can still use the visor as intended during the day.

i have this clipped to one of my pack straps for a handsfree light while moving around at night. the clip is very sturdy, and the case feels tough enough to handle abuse without any trouble. i have managed to knock the charging cover off by accident a couple times, and im concerned that ill lose the cover entirely when this thing goes out on a hiking trip with me this summer. light is plenty bright for my needs. you tap the button to cycle between low, high, and off, and long-press to change from white light to red, or vice versa. ive yet to run it dead from its initial charge with several hours of low-beam use, so i think the battery will easily last for a multi-day hike. once i get this out in the real world and give it some actual use, ill come back and update the review. for now though, im happy enough with this clip light that i would recommend it for outdoor use.

Most under advertised light. We tested it with a local Police department. Attached to the outer vest, allows for hands free light for night traffic stops & interaction b.v with individuals.

I drive a truck at night, and use a switchboard that is not illuminated. For the most part Ive managed to know where switches are without looking, but every so often Ive needed assistance and stopping to turn on and off the one overly bright overhead light slows me down big time. So my intention was to get a rechargeable clip on red light that could be used to see without distracting me from whats outside the windshield. First of all, let me start by saying the picture is incorrect. Actual light looks like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41tZdhSJYNL.jpg I purposely did not want something with a gooseneck, so without even opening the package I was already disappointed. The regular (white) light worked fine, as expected, but the red, even on its highest setting, was extremely dim. As in it did no good from even as close as a foot away. Where my light mounts above the board is probably 2 feet. I know the brightness was mentioned in the specs (0.5 lumens) but as an average consumer unfamiliar with lighting measurements, the number meant little and no way did I expect any company, especially a name brand, to use such a crap light on what is not a cheap device. Thirdly, the switch (a small grey click style push button) is a bit difficult to flip on and off. You hold it down to turn over colors and press it to cycle brightnesses and on/off. Not very easy to operate when moving around or while driving. I will say the construction quality is good. It feels durable and difficult to break. I have not had to charge since I got it, but considering its USB there shouldnt be any problem there. Overall, I feel there are better options available in the market, especially for the price. Not a happy customer.

Great item but poor documentation, otherwise a full five-star rating. The first thing you notice is the heft of this little gadget. It appears to be made of all metal, which in these days is sorely lacking in most products, plastic being the norm. It is one of those gadgets that you get that you toss up and down in your hand for a few seconds and go hmmm.... Well-built. The body, the clip, the flexible neck and light assembly all seem to be fairly substantial. Surprisingly it is not that heavy, or no more so than an equivalent plastic version. Those are the physical characteristics, now lets go to the operational aspect of it. It does not take rocket science to use this item, however a little more documentation wouldve been nice. It took me a few minutes to figure it out (thanks Google) but I did. Just figuring out how to charge this thing took a little doing as it has a cover over a USB plug that you use it to charge with, cable optional but not needed. I thought that gray seam in the middle was more decorative than anything but thats actually where the cap connects to the body. Give it a pull i& it comes off and has a rubbery tether so it doesnt get lost. I plugged mine in and the red bulb slowly flashed. Eventually the bulb quit flashing and I assumed it was charged. Now the fun begins. To turn the light on a quick push on the button and the light illuminates either clear or red depending on what was used last. After a little experimentation I figured out that to change color you have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds. Over the years Ive had several varieties of these items and never could find a use for the red one. I can see where there would be circumstances where would come in handy but for the most part I will probably only use the clear one. As far as ergonomics its compact, and can clip virtually anywhere..... A shirt pocket, the bill of a cap, the edge of a toolbox, the uses are limitless, but bear in mind the clip is pretty substantial out-of-the-box so you wouldnt want to clip it to anything fragile. As I said before Ive had several of these devices over the years but I think this one will become one of my favorites. I have a thing for items that appear to be of high quality, and well-designed and this fits the bill.
