Its a neat puzzle, but the pieces are challenging to put together for a kid too young. I got this for my 2 1/2 year old, and its a little complicated for him. Very well done, though. Quality pieces and a fun design, but I would recommend for older kiddos.

Great puzzle, did good with a q for quail! The boy I got it for has a dad in charge of a quail program for a university, however, n? For nightingale??, with a foul that looks like a duck? I could kind of understand had it been at least even painted the color of one, or at least had all animals, not X-rays and unicorns! Great puzzle though to parents , who notice these things:) was a lovely gift!

This puzzle has great reviews, but after reading them it was hard to tell what age was appropriate for this puzzle as the box says 5+. On a whim I got it for my 3.5-year old for Christmas, and he really liked it immediately. Not only did he unwrap it and immediately want to do it, but he didnt really need much help either. He sings the ABC song as he does it to see which letter is next. About a week later he understood that there are upper and lower case sides, but is having fun with just the caps for now. Of course I think hes smart for his age, and he has been in preschool for awhile, but I think some younger girls and similar age boys would have no trouble. Also, it is a great wooden puzzle. I think the size is substantial and the pieces are very well made and not so tiny that they would get lost easily. It met all of my expectations regarding quality.

Very pleased with this. Only bought it as it was a special present but it was very expensive.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my nephew of 1 1/2 years. Knowing he was too young, I wanted something more challenging-as he completes puzzles with such ease. He loves it-and its a challenge. The cool part? You can play and stack them as wooden animals! Win, win.

Beautiful puzzle. Loved the painted pieces and how unique it is. It’s a bit hard for my four year old but she will grow into it

Our granddaughter loves this puzzle that we gave her for her 5th birthday! I had been looking at it for over a year. Decided the timing was right--a good challenge, but no so challenging that she would get too frustrated The puzzle can be put together from left to right, or from right to left. This will determine whether you are using capital letters or lower case letters. Also, they need to be tracking their alphabet, (what comes next) as they are identifying the letters. The letters correlate to the name of the animal/bird etc puzzle piece. For example, V is for vulture. Some animals are fairly common and easily identifiable, while others are a little more challenging. We also have the spatial aspect of the puzzle. This puzzle is put together a little differently than some---yes, you are going in one direction, but some of the pieces are a little more challenging to figure out how they connect to the previous piece. So, you are dealing with 1) the spatial aspects of putting the puzzle together, 2) tracking the letters of the alphabet, 3) Remembering whether the letter is upper or lower case, and 4) identifying the animal as a clue to what letter this might be. The only negative point about this puzzle (in my opinion) is that it does not have a lid or a case. Once you tear the plastic off of the puzzle, you do have a nice little box that its in, but nothing to prevent pieces from being spilled or lost. Overall, though, its a wonderful puzzle!

Well made and packaged. Bought based on the reviews and was not disappointed. Quite a decent size and when assembled can be used even as decoration in the frame - the colors are nice and vibrant and the cutout pieces are well made. I gave as gift and don’t know yet on the kid’s reactions, but for a developing 2-3 year old this could be very enjoyable. No batteries and no buttons, noises and screens, just colors and shapes and still could be a lot of fun.

I purchased 2 of these for young nephews, one aged 18 months, the other nearly 3. They both enjoy it immensely, but of course play differently. The little one is mainly interested in playing with the separate pieces as animals, not interested in putting them together as a puzzle. The 3 year old also loves it and is beginning to recognize letters and is making an effort to put the pieces together. A toy that can keep a childs interest as they grow is always a good value and a good gift.
