This compressor is so quiet it won’t even start. I have repeatedly contacted the manufacturer and they reply with repair videos. I bought this expensive compressor to have compressed air on demand. What I received was a part time job trying to get this thing to operate. The last time I contacted them they failed to respond. I have a cheap (20 year old) compressor that has never failed. It is louder, but I can rely on it to operate. I cannot take my California Air compressor to a job site, because I cannot rely on it to work. Very sad. Very expensive. Look for an alternative before you spend your hard earned money with this company.

This compressor is awesome, when they said it was quiet I sort of said to myself, yea right, but when I flipped that switch, I was in awe, you can whisper and be heard with this compressor running, it is light weight and I love the very looks of it, definitely will be buying a bigger one when my garage is completed, would give this 10 stars if I could.

I bought this air compressor 4 years ago. About 18 months the air compressor would fall on its face when letting air out the hose. I contacted support and they were very unhelpful. Simple things like asking me for purchase date and model number when I had included that in my original contact email. The warranty was for 12 months, so they wanted nothing to do with helping me out other than sending me a link to the parts page. Through some troubleshooting, I found the regulator to be faulty. I removed the regulator and the internal bits and found a lot of corrosion. I cleaned and lubricated the regulator pieces, but the output pressure was still stuck at ~20 PSI. Today, I had enough and took matters into my own hands. I removed the regulator and installed an brand regulator and mounted it on the compressor bracket. California Air Tools wanted $60 for the regulator, which is a ridiculous price for a part that failed so quickly. All is well now and I have the compressor back to working as intended. If California Air Tools reads this, I would suggest they use regulator internal parts that dont corrode so easily.

This is the second California Air compressor Ive purchased over the years. The first was a 10gl upright. While quiet and reliable, the build quality is horrible...and thats putting it lightly. I decided after 5 years with the last one (which is still going strong - after multiple repairs) Id chance it again in hopes the quality has improved. This time I went with the 4gl aluminum hotdog. Out of the box it was surprisingly light. Set up took merely seconds. Install the muffler, plug it in! This one is even quieter then my other. Build quality is good on this model. Also keep in mind this model does not have wheels. Which was a major issue with the 10gl. So heres my deal with Cal Air. No doubt quietest AC on the market. They look really high end. The motors are incredible and very reliable. The rest of the package leaves a lot to be desired. Worst of all...customer service and the way you have to go about purchasing to replace a part is absurd and tremendously frustrating. Im hoping for better results with this little 4gl.? So far so good. I did replace the couplers and hoping this mandrel doesnt split like the last one. Also hope the muffler holds up better then the previous model? Ill do an update in the following months. Stay tuned. I do recommend at this point. Update ; I have had this compressor for a little over a month. Literally have less then 5 total hours on it. Already broke. One of the supply lines to the switch box snapped off, leaving the remaing thread in the hole. Its in a very difficult place to access. To repair I will either have to replace the whole switch and all the part that go with it, or try to find some way of reading out the remaing threads. To say Im frustrated would be an understatement. This company is something else. Make excellent pumps then outsource the rest of the build to shit manufacturing facility. Makes no sense. Im going to fix this pos, sell it and the other one and find a brand that stands behind their products. Unbelievable. Get your shit together CalAir. Lost another customer, might ask yourself how many lost clients that makes? I do not reccomend this product. Makita makes a quiet compressor. Anything better then having to deal with this crap.

Not ultra quiet. I dont have a decibel meter, but I do have ears. I really cant fathom how the CAT compressor would be advertised as ultra quiet. I have a oil lube Jun Air that I would call ultra quiet, the California Air Tools compressor noise level far exceeds that of the Jun Air. The California Air Tools compressor is about as loud as loud talking with of course a more annoying tone. I needed some oil free compressed air, so I guess this will do until I can find a used compressor that really is ultra quiet and fits my budget. If you are short of money and time this is an option if you temper your expectations.

Awesome little compressor. It is much quieter than most Ive heard and light enough for me to carry from room to room, I havent used it with the framing nailer yet. Im sure itll have to recharge more frequently but judging by the way it handles a finish nailer, Im confident it will handle the big nailer on smaller project like a shed etc.

This is the absolute quietest compressor I have ever owned, great for the house garage.

Very quiet, reasonable price. Ive heard great things about these compressors and now that Im starting a remodel of my own home while living in it, I finally pulled the trigger on a quality quiet air compressor. So far, its failed on the first job. Attached photo is the power cord once removed- incredibly, this isnt the failure point of the power cord. Fortunately the compressors control box accepts a standard 1/2 strain relief, so if youre handy you probably have a spare cord, crimp connectors, and a proper strain relief to replace the cord on your truck.

I was looking for a quiet compressor. I have been using a porter cable pancake unit. When that thing comes on babies cry and ear drums bleed. I was tired of the noise. The entire reason in purchased this unit was it clam to be quiet. I am shocked. Totally shocked. The noise from this is minimal. It is far from ear piercing. I would classify this as quiet. It is not hype and it lives up to its marketing. I also upgraded to the aluminum tanks. I am glad I did. I would imagine the steel tanks would add weight and take my joy of use away. Spend the extra money on aluminum. Overall—I am thrilled with my purchase. Time will tell how it holds up. Very happy.
