HiLetgo 2pcs ESP8266 NodeMCU CP2102 ESP-12E Development Board Open Source Serial Module (Pack of 2PCS)

I have been using mine for a year and its been great. I used it with mongoose os which it much simpler to use than arduino IDE. I love this little board.

I bought a couple of these a while ago for a project I had in mind. I did the development on an Adafruit Huzzah board and everything works fine. It connects to a couple of BMP280 sensor board and displays temp and air pressure on a web page. I connected the same sensors to this board (had to change the pins, it is NOT pin-compatible!) and tried to upload the program. Note that there is no direct support for Hiletgo boards in the Arduino IDE, I used the same generic ESP8266 board I used for the Adafruit board. As soon as I uploaded the program, the serial monitor starting spewing garbage. I finally found the review that mentioned the serial baud rate is broken, so I changed it per their suggestion. Yea! I can now see that the serial monitor is saying Fatal Exception (0) over and over and over... Next, I created a simple Hello, World program and uploaded it. Same Fatal Exception over and over and... Pretty much a piece of garbage.

Ive purchased many of these for some sensor projects around the home with great success, well on my windows machine anyway. After much research and installing drivers from questionable sources Ive given up working on these devices with my Mac. Ill continue to buy these until I find an alternative with better driver support.

This is NodeMCU version 1.0 which fits well on a breadboard. This comes with WiFi. The one that I got has an Arduino WifiScan sketch loaded in it. It comes with no documentation, so it takes a little time to search for information and get it up and running. Once you set up your PC and development environment, it is pretty easy to get it going. Good value. You can get it a bit cheaper, but this one has support folks who are willing to help if you have any question. Will definitely buy from HiLetgo again.

Most important piece of info that no one seems to share. Connect Pin GPI00(Pin D3) to GND. Plug into USB Run the Firmware programmer(com port, I set baud to 9600, select your firmware build) Hit flash and voila its working, wait until blue bar finishes.

Has everything you need and they even pad the bottom pins with styrofoam to prevent them from getting bent. I am a beginner and bought the wrong board before (ESP12-F) and it did not work with the libraries they instructed. When selecting a board in the Arduino IDE, select Generic esp8266 or NODEMCU 1.0 ESP12E. Also make sure your usb cable supports data!

Good value and works as expected. Had some small difficulties flashing, which I’m not necessarily blaming on the chip itself; just a note to other buyers that it wasn’t recognized as a USB device on windows 8 or 10; I needed to use a Linux system, Python, and esptools to reliably work with it

Im into home automation and these little guys are pretty much perfect for probes. I pair them with a DHT22 and a couple of LEDs to make temperature probes that feed info to my data collector. I can then use that data to make adjustments to my thermostat to make sure that rooms stay comfy. The WiFi interface is very easy to use and they program directly from the Arduino IDE. And with the ArduinoOTA library, I dont even have to connect them to my PC, after initialization, to update the code. If you just have a sensor and some LEDs or a display, then there is no need for a full size Arduino Uno, these little guys work great.

Easy to configure with Adriano IDE. Tons of tutorials and projects are available.
