> 24 hourI have been reading a very useful book - ‘Restoring Your Digestive Health’ - by Jordan S Rubin and Joseph Brasco, both MDs. They have a section titled ‘Sub-Par Supplements’ in the book, and interestingly, this section lists amino acid supplements. Many Amino acid supplements are sold to athletes and bodybuilders to help them build muscle strength. The problem with these supplements, however, is that they are a far cry from the amino acids in food. In the protein from food sources, different kinds of amino acids are bound together in long molecule chains, but in supplements the amino acids are free form or unbound. Each type of amino acid is sold as an isolate. Research suggests that these isolate, free-form amino acids are not absorbed adequately. Cofactors present in food sources probably help the body metabolize amino acids, but those cofactors are not present in free form amino acids. As long as you are getting enough protein in your food, you do not need to take amino acid supplements. Consume lacto-fermented foods and take high quality digestive enzymes to improve your protein digestion if you feel that you are deficient in amino acids. In general, we do not recommend these supplements for most patients.

> 24 hourI have a tendency to get fever blisters if I get a sneezing spell or a mild fever, almost anything like a cold or a bug of sometime, I usedd to take Lysine when that happened to try and fight those pesky cold sores and fever blisters at bay, I have now started taking one of thesse Lysine daily with my other supplements aand it seems to be helping more then just the taking of them when it a;pears I may be at risk, I am not sure one kind is better thhen the next but these are reasonably priced and easy too swallow, will buy again when I run low, I purchased these from Amazon as I have started buuying all my supplements thru them as it is super convenient and evven with shipping as cheap as regular retailers, I love my Prime membership now and that gets things her fast and no shipping, as well as thier other benefits.

> 24 hourI normally like the NOW products because they are well made and natural. However, this batch has problems with the capsules (not tablets) leaking the powdered interior of L-Lysine. When I take some capsules out I can see inside the clear capsule shell where some of the powder fell out. Some are full and some are 3/4 full. About 1/4 of the capsules are missing the interior powder. However, I do notice the health benefits of the L-Lysine and will order again to see if it arrives in better condition. As I said, I have never had an issue with other NOW products, so I will keep you posted after a new batch of L-Lysine arrives.
