> 3 dayI purchased both a 500GB and a 250GB 870 EVO in an effort to increase the performance of the PC. I was looking for a boost in windows start time and increase in speed in opening apps and games, and these definitely delivered! I upgraded two machines both running spinning HDDs. One was Windows10 and another Windows7 and there is a noticeable increase in boot time especially with the older Windows7 machine. I enjoy the fact that SSDs are more reliable as well. Ive had HDDs fail and it is a bad situation. Also, Windows7 did not recognize the SSD when I plugged it in to USB using an adapter. I had to plug it in directly using SATA3 and power.

> 3 dayFrom a functional standpoint this is a great SSD, much improvement on the 860 EVO. The unexpected problem with it, or at least the sample of one I purchased, is that the sound quality of music files is noticeably better with the 860 EVO. I use the SSD in an Inateck enclosure, plugged into the back of an Oppo 203, and from there to some very good quality gear. So in comparing the 860 and 870 here there were only two variables, the drives and the enclosure. Since I have three of the same model Inateck enclosure to try, I was able to rule out that factor. When I first noticed the difference, maybe after 125 hours of SSD use, I wondered if it was a matter of burn in (maybe SSDs are like everything else from a sound standpoint). So I played it through my laptop continuously for 72 hours before comparing again. Nothing had changed. Maybe it needed more, but the deadline for return came.

Greater than one weekGreatest thing (IMO) about using Samsung SSD drives is the data migration tool available on Samsung’s site. Assuming that (A) you have a USB-SATA cable, and (B) the computer whose hard drive you’re replacing works, then download the Data Migration tool, install it, and let it work its magic…when it’s done, everything from the old drive will be copied to the new drive, the computer will be turned off and ready for installation of the new Samsung SSD, and when you turn your machine back on, you’ll be up and running with (usually) zero issues - even brings across licensing information as it’s a true cloning software.

> 3 dayThe 870 evo is as good as it gets in ssd drives. Comes with excellent software that is easy to use. It is more money but never had one fail yet.
