Seagate Game Drive STGG8000400 8 TB Portable Hard Drive - External - White, 4.6 in x 1.6 in x 7.8 in

I really enjoy this products aesthetic. The engraved surface looks and feels much greater than it looks in the photo. This unit came formatted with NTFS / MBR. However, I found that it has less capacity than advertised. Please see the comparison with Samsung T5 2000 GB drive. Windows 10 shows 1,950,386,618,368 bytes = 1816.44 GiB = 1.77 TiB (= 1.95 TB) instead of 1.81 TiB (= 2 TB). Because all the hard drive manufacturers define 2TB as 2,000,000,000,000 bytes, it is NOT a binary/decimal conversion problem. It really lacks capacity. I dont know if my unit has a defect, or the other units are the same. I left an inquiry on Seagate customer support, but they didnt try to understand the real capacity loss. They repeated that it will vary by how I initialize the disk even though they provided pre-formatted drive. I was advised to check the capacity with Seagate Seatools. I found Youtube videos that use this drive in XBOX and show 1.7 TB available, while WD Elements show 1.8TB. If it is intended, I assume that the 50GB might be a reserved space for CMR caching for this SMR drive. Fortunately, Ive never seen any SMR-related performance drop yet. At a desktop PC, one USB 3.0 port showed 130 MB/s read and 30 MB/s write, while another USB 3.0 port showed 130 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write. It might be a power delivery problem. If your unit shows very slow write, just try on another USB port. Finally, Crystal Disk Info shows SATA300 / SATA600 transfer mode, which means the internal SATA3 drive is connected with SATA2 USB bridge chip. Even though the enclosure looks fantastic, you will not be satisfied if you replace the internal hard drive to any SSD.

ich hab sie bisher nur mal zum testen am pc angesteckt - die platte ist für den pc gedacht - und hab daten rüberkopiert und das ging mit einer durchschnittenlichen übertragungsrate von ca 180mb/sek. das brach auch nach 45 min noch nicht richtig ein. unter 160mb/sek wars nie! meißt wirklich ca 180mb/sek. wobei ich meine andere festplatte von der ich weiß daß die soooo richtig schnell ist direkt am usb-port dieser seagate angeschlossen habe! gefällt mir sehr gut. kann ich sehr empfehlen. etwas was mir allerdings ganz und gar nicht gefällt ist die tatsache daß die so wie sie abgebildet ist leicht wackelig steht! die 4 gummifüße sind nicht gleichmässig auf der fläche verteilt! einer von denen ist ca 1cm nach innen versetzt was es ein wenig wacklig macht! als großen negativ punkt sehe ich jedoch, daß sie keinen ausschalter hat! einmal angesteckt ist sie immer am strom. das mag ich nicht! ich hab die rezension eigentlich als 5 stern rezension angesehen aber aus dem grund gebe ich nur 4 stern auch wenn ich diese platte nur zur datensicherung nutze und nur anstecke wenn ich sie zum sichern brauche, aber es stört daß kein schalter dran ist! was ich ehrlich gesagt auch nicht mag ist der lange flache usb-stecker! ich sehe keinen sinn in diesem stecker zumal 99% aller anderen usb-geräte einheitlich den üblichen usb-stecker haben! so ist man gezwungen das usb-kabel immer in der nähe dieser festplatte aufzubewahren, da man sonst nicht mal schnell ein anderes kabel nehmen kann! technisch gesehen find ich sie sonst top. nur würde ich mir einen schalter und einen einheitlichen usb-stecker wünschen. aja, das netzteil ist ein wenig eigen: man muß es selbst zusammenbauen, je nachdem ob ma neinen eu, uk oder usa stecker haben will. das macht das netzteil unnötig groß. ausserdem würde ich mir wünschen das die netzteile quasi genormt sind und es nur eine art von netzteil und eine art von stecker gibt! hat man mehrere festplatten muß man immer aufpassen welche platte und welches netzteil zusammengehören/zusammenpassen! ich finde hier sollte es einen standard geben genau so wie es usb als standardanschluß für handys ist! das sind wünsche die ich bei der punktevergabe nicht berücksichtigt habe aber vl liest es ein hersteller und denkt mal drüber nach!

Ich nutze Sie an meinem PC und finde die USB-Anschlüsse sehr gut. Habe sie schon sehr lange und vor kurzen wieder rausgekramt, weil ich da nach Daten gesucht habe. Leider liegt sie momentan nur im Schrank rum aber sie geht noch. Preis-Leistung ist aber na ja also ich würde nicht die Xbox Version empfehlen sondern die normale (ist schwarz) aber wenn das Design toll findet nur zu. Die USB-Anschlüsse kann ich zum aufladen meiner Elektronikgeräte nehmen.

My Xbox only has 500GB of storage and I was constant deleting games to install new ones. CoD MW and BO were taking up nearly my entire storage so I needed an external harddrive. Ive now got over 30 games installed on my Xbox and I still havent filled it. The harddrive itself is actually fairly small and just plugs straight into one of the usb ports.

First, the item arrived so much faster than anticipated. Second, the set up was wildly easy and effortless. Third, my husband is so excited to now have and additional 4 terabytes of memory and it has thus far worked perfectly. We got it on a black Friday sale and I wish I would have bought one for myself as well!

I paid the extra money for this drive simply because the other drives I looked at are typically half the speed and generally for backup only. This drive works perfectly on my Alienware system for the every day stuff and the fast drives I have are used for everything else, but dont assume from what I said that this drive is horribly slow, it is not! While others here seem to generally comment about the XBOX use for this drive I have successfully used it none stop on my PC for transferring stuff that I dont use all the time (pictures, archive video for editing and compiling etc.) and it has not failed in any way. Singular thing I dont like is the wall wart of a power supply that they have. But when you turn off the PC this drive turns off automatically too so its not really a pain. This drive is USB 2 & 3 compatible and I use mine with USB 3 which as most will know adds a far greater transfer rate. Typically I get about 200Mb speeds or thereabouts (it varies on what the drive is loaded with) and the free space in Windows 10 is in reality about 7.2 Terabytes of real storage. Highly recommended compared to other similarly priced stuff and some of the WD drives I looked at cost 1/3 more for USB2... this was by far the best choice for me and I dont care whether it says Xbox on the cover or whether it says peanuts :). Nice in white too, and I also like the USB connectors on the front of the unit for connecting other devices as I seem fit. Its certainly useful for a PC user and it works fine on my XBOX (latest version too, which I tried before using the drive on my PC which was its real purpose of use.

Doesnt allow me to play most of my Series X compatable games on it. Was really hoping to not have to drop an extra $100 or so for the expansion card, but it seems like thats the case.

feels well built, looks good although its advertised for use with an xbox, it works well as an external drive for my pc.
