> 3 dayFor the first time in my life I had a piece of checked airline baggage disappear forever. Inside the bag was a 12 year old Osprey Talon 22 that I had lovingly used and abused all over the U.S. and the world. It is the perfect daypack in my eyes - not too big and not too small. Its extraordinarily comfortable, holds weight well, and the moveable framesheet allows you to zero-in on the perfect fit. I didnt think twice about buying another, and unlike my old one, they now have those spiffy Osprey side mounted trekking pole holders. Very few things deserve a full five stars without any negatives. The Talon 22 is in that category.

Greater than one weekThis Talon 22 is a great size for day hikes, epic mountain bike rides, and even use as a personal item while flying. It is significantly bigger than my camelbak mule, so I can easily carry water, food, tools, spare tubes, and more for 5+ hour mountain bike rides. It also is plenty big enough for day hikes. The rigid back panel and harness comfortably and easily carries 25 lbs. Also, compared to my Statos 40, I definitely notice the lesser ventilation of the Talon 22. However, the Talon 22 works way better when I don’t need the space of the Stratos 40, especially when bringing it on a plane. I have some leg room when placing this backpack under the seat. The Stratos 40 was too big the one time I tried using it as my personal item. Last, as with all my Osprey backpacks, the quality and thoughtful features are excellent. This is a pack I know I will enjoy using for many years in lots of different activities.

Greater than one weekWe took a trip to 9 national parks a couple months ago, and used 4 different backpacks for a dozen or so hikes. These are the packs we used: this one (Osprey Talon 22), an Osprey Hikelite 18, a Gregory Swift 15, and a Mountainsmith Clear Creek 15.

> 3 dayI have 3 other Osprey packs of varying sizes. An Osprey Manta 34, an Escapist 32, and a Farpoint 40 for travel. They all have their strengths. Ive been using the Escapist 32 as a daypack and it serves that purpose well but its more of a day to day use backpack. Good for bike commuting but doesnt have the structure to distribute a load for a longer day hike.

Greater than one weekI bought this for my wife for hiking on an overseas trip. Once the fit is dialed in and you understand the features, it is amazing. I wish I had bought one for myself now.

> 3 dayGreat basic hiking backpack, incredibly well made, carries enough for a day hike and more. Also works good as a travel bag. Straps/Backing is comfortable, and lifetime guarantee with Osprey.

> 3 dayI’m amazed how comfortable it is on long hikes. Straps work well even if you’re tall and have broad shoulders. Lightweight yet seems durable. Plenty of pockets to keep your stuff accessible. Perfect size for day trips and to pack a lunch. I would NOT recommend it for any actual overnight or light camping.

> 3 dayI’ve been using a 50L GoLite Jam for longer day hikes because it has comfortable padded waist and shoulder straps. I bought a Talon 22 ML/XL to use on days when I’m carrying smaller loads. Most daypacks have unpadded waist belts and marginally padded shoulder straps that are uncomfortable for all day hiking.

> 3 dayLike the hip belt which transfers weight off shoulders and serves a hand place to store trail mix and odds and ends. Have used on several long day hikes and have found very comfortable.
