Review for TP-Link TL-SG108PE V3 POE is seamlessly powering my TP-link EAP 660 HD over a roughly 25 foot run of cat 6 cable. Without the need for vlans there was nothing for me to configure, thought the web interface does seem nice. I may find use of that later on in case I decide to buy some POE security cameras that I dont want to access the WAN. Lack of Omada support hardly matters for myself, a home user.

The tough thing about reviewing this TP-Link 8-Port Gigabit PoE Webmanaged EasySmart switch is that since it is labeled as business class its not just a typical review of home user equipment. That said, its perfect for home use, but keep in mind that this is an add-on to a router. In my case, a FIOS-provided wireless gateway only came with 4 wired connections and I now have a need for 5 or more. This plugs and plays perfectly. Just connect a cat5e or better ethernet cable from the wireless gateway into the TP-Link switch (I suggest port 8, but you can choose whichever you want... though probably a good idea to leave 1-4 for PoE devices should you ever get any) and another cat6 from any of the remaining 7 ports on the device, and youre good to go. Its that easy. (Note that since one port is used to connect to the router, you can only connect seven devices to the switch.) That said, from the business side, Id be inclined to imagine this TL-SG108PE is more geared towards a small business that doesnt use rack mounted servers or switches. While I see a comment in the questions about the device being rack mountable, I didnt find any hardware included to assist with that. I think that is referring to the TL-SG1008PE GigabitPoE+ switch, which does list rack mountable in the description. This is pretty clearly a desktop switch. You can even see in the names on the Amazon listing as it currently stands. I hope someone from TP-Link realizes the possibility for confusion and works with Amazon to split up the listings instead of making them options of the same device. TP-LINK 8-Port Gigabit PoE Web Managed Easy Smart Switch with 4 PoE Ports (TL-SG108PE) TP-LINK 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE Desktop Switch with 4 PoE Ports (TL-SG1008P) TP-LINK 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE Rackmount Switch with 8 PoE+ Ports (TL-SG1008PE) TP-LINK 8-Port Fast Ethernet PoE Desktop Switch with 4 PoE Ports (TL-SF1008P) Again, going towards the idea that the TL-SG108PE is a small business switch, the web management software is almost definitely worth the extra few bucks. On the other hand, this switch is packed with features that I think may be overkill for a small business. Why does a desktop switch need a monitor port? And if you dont have any PoE devices, you might want to look at the TL-SG108 or even TL-SG105 instead and save a few bucks. In short: great switch, not so great Amazon listing. Questionable product quality. One of the ports is already dead, has been using only for 4 months.

So far Im only using this 16 port TP Link managed switch for its POE+ capability to run an EAP245 access point. Its pushing 3 watts at 57 volts through cat5e in our house from the basement to the 2nd story and has not hiccuped once. The interface is decent. Its not as polished as the EAP245; there are spelling errors and bad English translations from Chinese, but overall its sufficient to get the job done. This switch supports MTU, port and 802.1q vlans. Im hoping to use the 802.1q vlans with the EAP245 and Ubiquiti ERL to segregate our network. I expect to run a few IP cameras and other POE devices in the future as well since this supports 110w.

Been running a few IP cameras for a few years, no problems. Never needed to log in or reboot it or anything. Web interface is clean, and offers some features for monitoring and managing the PoE. You can see how much power each device is using, and set limits and priorities. Only 8 ports have PoE, but all 16 do Gb speed, which is great. It does have a fan, as do most switches in this class, so its not totally silent. I have it in a closet so I dont really notice the noise, but if you really need *silence* then you need to find something fan-less.

Using these to extend a current business network. Theyve held up well, dont seem to run hot, are easily configureable, and thus far compatible with my Ubiquiti hardware. I really needed the ability to extend a few desktops and access points. The PoE on some ports met my needs perfectly!

I bought a number of the TP-Link switches and ended up with this one. The PoE and Gigabit speeds work great. Tested with iperf3. Been super happy and stable with all 4 PoE ports driving Raspberry Pis with no issues at all for months! Really appreciate the value for money of this switch!

Bought on March 16th. Failed today. Been on hold with TPLink for 30 minutes. Still on hold. The device simply stopped functioning. Now I need to pay to return to TP link and wait for the replacement. Update: Amazon made good on the refund and shipping NOT TP_Link. TP-Link finally answered me on Facebook to explain how the problem was with me. NEWER UPDATE: Amazon sent me a new unit which failed on 14 August less than 60 days after receiving it. I have been corresponding with TP-Link for almost a month with no movement other than sending more tests. I am an engineer and have done extensive testing on the unit. They asked me to get Another 48V power supply and try it out to insure the power supply is not the problem even after measuring correct voltage out of the power supply. Since this is a critical piece of a network I assume they want the customer to get frustrated and simply buy something else.
