> 3 dayIve bought several of WDs external hard drives over the years, and this one remains my favorite. Its easy to set-up/install, but please read carefully before you just madly accept any and all offers the program may encourage. Use this HD just for its intended purpose: to back up your files and protect you in the event of a system failure and data loss. I purchased the 2TB My Passport. This is more than enough spacious realty for your files! If youre the average users, mostly backing up personal data such as photo, videos, and word docs, it may take you a lengthy amount of time to fill the Passport to capacity. The files transfer over at lightening speed. Transfers that were calculated to take a full day to complete occur in less than 5-10 minutes when using the WD My Passport. You cant beat it for all around portability and on-the-go needs!! I highly recommend regularly backing up your data in case of system failure, and WDs My Passport is a lower cost, and highy effective means to achieving that end. The peace of mind alone is worth the cost. This is a hands-down excellent product.

> 3 dayI bought two of these WD Passports. One was to replace my old WD 500 Gig external hard drive. The other I bought to attach to my Playstation 4 for external storage. No instructions were included in the box so had to go to website to download the software to install and configure. My only complaint. The second one for my Playstation 4 was even easier to connect and format. I can now not have to delete old games due to storage needs! Highly recommend!

> 3 dayThis little pocket style drive is about as good as these get. It is simple to use. Plug and Play. Any method for copying or loading files to a hard drive works well. I do have one little thing that bothers me but it may be software/system related. If I am copying a lot of folders that contain many files, the data transfer rate slows down. I have found tat the drive is fastest when transferring large files and very few folders.70 MB/sec avg. transfer speed. I play large 1080P video files straight from this drive without a single issue. For 2 TB of storage for such a low cost, I had to give this drive an overall 5 stars. I have dealt with Western Digital one time on a broken drive under warranty. They treat customers very well and do whatever they can to keep you happy. I phoned them, reported the issue and had a new drive within a few days.

> 3 dayIt has recently come to my attention that Ive been lazy with my backups. Enter the WD My Passport external hard drive. The difference between this and the slightly cheaper WD Elements portable HD seems to be that the former is better suited for backups. At least thats what Western Digitals marketing claims. ***The good*** As an external hard drive it works just fine. Ive posted screenshots of some DiskMark benchmarks I ran and read/write speeds are largely in-line with what I see from my SATA internal HDD. All good there. ***The Neutral*** Build-quality is just so-so. It feels extremely plasticy and doesnt seem like it would take much abuse. That said, it doesnt necessarily feel fragile either. If I were regularly tossing it in a bag or traveling with it I might be concerned. But for in-house backups its fine. ***The Bad*** I appreciate simple, reliable software. Unfortunately WD Backup is a little too simple. Ita about as barebones as one can get. Its only two options are backup frequency and source. The biggest problem being that it doesnt include any option to sync instead of backup. For example, say I create a backup on Monday that includes files 1, 2 and 3. Then on Tuesday, on my PC, I delete file 2. When using sync software, file 2 would be deleted on the drive mirror. Using backup software, file 2 would remain. Neither method is better than the other, just different. However, I would prefer to sync, and not backup. In order to accomplish this one will need to acquire additional software. I find this very annoying considering a) its marketed as a backup-centric product and b) the competing product from Seagate includes software which allows for both. Finally, it didnt even work right out of the box. The backup process kept hanging up. I had to format the drive and download the latest software from WDs website. No big deal but a little annoying. ***Conclusions*** I would not buy again. Most likely, I would purchase the Seagate Backup Plus instead. Alternatively, I might purchase the cheaper WD Elements external HD and also a 3rd party all-in-one backup/sync software solution. ***My Rating Criteria*** Build Quality(47.5%) - 3.5 Stars Efficacy(47.5%) - 3.0 Stars Post-Sale Support(0.0%) - n/a Packaging/Presentation(5.0%) - 5.0 Stars WEIGHTED AVERAGE(100.0%) - 3.3 STARS

> 3 dayReally didnt think Id need additional storage but yeah, that day arrived. After deleting a few games I knew I had a problem. Didnt know the cure would be this simply or cheap. Plugged it in and within minutes I was transfering games from the internal drive over to this one. Ive got tons of room now and couldnt be happier!

> 3 dayIm editing my last review about the speed of the product. However, the rest remains an issue. The box says the contents include a quick install guide and software. Not there. Went on line and the brand isnt listed on WD site, but there are numerous blank squares (where a photo might appear but wont open) that you can click and find out what they are. Clicked though them and found the product. But the Quick Installation on the menu just comes up with a cover page and an address for the support site. Went to the user manual, and the instructions were sketchy. Lots of false starts trying to get program going. Finally called support #. Good news is that I got a real person right away and the support guy steadily worked the problem for a 1/2 hour, trying all sorts of methods, and eventually got it working. When I first tried the back-up, it was only 5% backed-up after 4 hours. I then figured out that it wont back up once the computer goes into sleep mode. So you need to be at your computer doing other stuff for it to back-up. Which means that it wouldnt back up at night when I would want it to automatically do that.

> 3 dayI was able to successfully partition this HDD for Windows back ups and Mac back ups so now my data is backed up cross platform. I didnt have any problem using this on macOS just use disk utility to reformat it. Its possible to have different formats for different partitions of the same external HDD like I did for Windows and Mac simultaneously.
