Just plugged it in, ran the backup utility, and set up my backup schedule. Came back later and tested single file and folder restores, and they worked easily just as you would hope. I like it, it just ticks along in the background, keeping my data safe from a disk failure. I may buy another and do an off-site rotation once a month just for safe keeping. No cloud needed, yay!

Love the computer, it was delivered really fast and in perfect conditions. The RAM really makes this the fastest computer i ever used and its really perfect for my work.

Im very pleased with My Passport External Hard Drive. Its small, light, and easy to carry around. Plus, its very stylish :) I had no issues with the installation, the process was very quick. I really needed a hard drive that could hold a gazillion of files for my business on-the-go (I constantly create a variety of content: high-resolution graphics, videos, etc.), and this is the perfect solution

I cant tell you how much of a difference this fantastic product made for my PS4 I think I have a total of 19/500 GB on my PlayStation and 1.2 TB on the external hard drive that = gaming Shangri la and flexibility waiting on DL stinks and so does long loading screens. No better accessory, just buy it quit reading reviews!

I find the design of the WD Passport to be well done. While its basically a rectangle, all of the models are the same width, This leads to ease of stacking. Im currently looking at approx. 20 in various storage sizes. They also come in a variety of colours, which makes organizing your data by types easy (I gave up on that idea because of buying the cheapest colours on sale). The downside is that the drive itself is integrated into the control card. In other words, if the USB connection fails, then you cant just pop the drive out of the enclosure and and put it in another box. While I have yet to face this issue, I can see it become a problem after repeated use as the USB connector develops wiggle room.

Well, so far its working fine and Ive had it for over 6 months now, but going through the reviews has me in constant fear of when it decides to stop working. Hard Drives arent really made to be moved around so I try to keep it on a level surface and stationary when using it. My plan is to buy a SSD external drive when Ive got the money and opportunity and use it as a secondary backup. As for now, I say if youre willing to be careful, then its a worthwhile buy.

Bought this to use as long term storage for essential files including documents, photos and videos. Decision factors included cost/storage capacity, portability, USB 3.0 compliance, generally good user reviews and manufacturer reputation/track record. Have used an older 1TB My Passport external USB interface drive for about 7 or 8 years with no issues. Am expecting high-level of durability with appropriate handling and care. Of course time will tell. I never use bundled software on hard drives, and so cannot speak to this. On first plug-in this My Passport was immediately recognized on my Linux Mint 18.3 and 19.1 systems, which are primary production systems. It was not recognized immediately on Windows 10. It appeared in the connected hardware icon in the system tray, but not in File Explorer. Using Administrative Tools in Control Panel was able to assign a drive letter. That assignment now persists across reboots and the drive is recognized routinely in W10.

This product is great! It comes with a lot of product support and has a great file transfer speed. PROS: Well packaged Comes with Software for PIN CODE Security Comes with Software for Automatic Backup Update Fast File Transfers Light Indicator (Sleep Mode, File transfer, OFF) CONS: The USB Cable is a bit Short Case is not drop resistant (but most external hard rives arent)

I guess I should have listened to the majority of the other reviews. Unfortunately most of them are true. This drive stopped working amazingly quick. Now dont get me wrong, it still functions somewhat as a drive. But when I try backing up my drive that I bought this for, I get constant errors and it tells me to run chkdsks and all that jazz and that there are bad sectors all over the place. I run the chckdsks and use all of the tools they want me to, yet none of them return errors. Sometimes when you try to transfer large files as well, it just doesnt wanna cooperate. Very very disappointing. Ill be sure to avoid WD from here on out and see how badly Seagate and the likes fail me next.. Dont worry, Im sure they will perform roughly the same. But damn, I was real hopeful here. I have an old WD external that still functions pretty well, so I was hoping to get that same kind of luck. Oh well, cant win em all. And for this price, I cant expect too much I guess. Cheers.

Western Digital Passport drives have always been my go-to for a compact, no-power-chord-needed, portable storage solution with a lot of space. And most importantly, they wont cost you a fortune! I must have about 10 of these drives laying around, in different colors, across the past four generations of product. None of them have failed, and the color options help you to easily organize your projects. Buy a cheap case to go along with it, and youre all set to go!
