31-03-2025Nice, like the style and feel of it, it has been downloading since I have gotten it, so like about 2 hours ago, and its a little warm but nothing crazy or worry some. Only complaint is maybe the price but honestly, seems a bit worth it so far,but honestly I think they could maybe make a more economical version that has similar capability and such but maybe not as durable, bit idk over all I am satisfied so far. Will update in about a week to ad use still time temp with no downloads in progress.

> 3 dayI like how this is narrower than the HDD version of the same product line, and the rubber feet are not as cheap either. It worked fine out of the box for a Windows 10 USB-A connection, but did not work via USB-C out of the box. The indicator light is subtle which is great. The cables are just standard cables for USB-C to USB-A, as well as USB-C to USB-C.

> 3 dayI bought this for the series X cuz I thought Xbox would support drives this fast but boy was I wrong. It goes as fast as the Xbox OS allows it. Seems faster than my Samsung T5. Im happy with this purchase but less happy with Microsoft.

> 3 dayThe first thing is the size. About the size of a small smart phone. With one Terabyte of memory. I still remember buying my first hard drive. 450 megabytes for 450 dollars. And much larger, you could fit about ten of these W.D Blacks into that one old HHD! This is not a super cheap drive, but for an external gaming drive, it is as fast as advertised. I use a PC. Best used with a computer that has an SSD installed already for the OS. I have an older hard drive in my gamer, which I am currently replacing with an SSD drive. However, on my other desk top, which has the SSD for the OS, the speed is amazing. I downloaded my games from Steam onto the drive. It uses USB3.0, cable comes with it. The drive is so fast, when plugged in, instantly the menu of games comes up. I mean...WOW! So from SSD to SSD, this is amazing. For older standard HHD (hard disk drive) to the SSD, you will notice a slightly slower speed. However, the difference loading games and the play is super fast. I loaded Fallout 4 and a few other games. There was not only no lag, I absolutely noticed that when using weapons, there was an immediate response that I never had happen before. Just one white light on the side says its on. I found it gets warm, warmer and can get a bit on the hot side when used a lot, I loaded and unloaded games, photos, other apps, to see performance. Overall, its an obvious speed increase. I loaded up 48gb of photos from the HHD that is used for storage on the PC to the SSD main hard drive on the same computer. It took approximately 20 minutes to transfer from an HHD to an SSD. Then I transferred the same file from the SSD drive on the computer to the W.D. Black. Less than 5 minutes. Thats a 75% increase in transfer rate. Thats excellent. I am going to use this for a lot of things, mostly games. But with the super large 1TB capacity, also will use this for storing photos, other things I need to keep secure. The W.D. Black has proven itself to me quite well. Western Digital is one of the oldest and best computer peripheral companies around. This is a superb drive. I will update after six months as far as lasting ability.

> 3 dayI don’t recommend this drive because it crashes. Sundisk is the way to go with SSD

> 3 dayThe drive is very fast, running at speed up to the 1500 MB/s range when connected to a USB 3.2x2 20Gb/s port, and up to the 800 MB/s range when connected to a USB-C 3.2/3.1 10Gb/s port. On the other hand, if you are to connect the drive to a USB-A port, you are in very bad luck. Even with a USB-A 3.2/3.1 10Gb/s port, the drive only gives around 50 MB/s speed (which is consistent with product reviews on various tech websites), making it worse than some flash drives. This is probably due to a sub-par USB-C to USB-A cable from WD.

> 3 dayI am using this drive for PS5 expansion. It gets very warm almost hot to the touch even when NOT being accessed (playing games from internal) and just being connected. I cant imagine this lasting very long, heat destroys electronics causing to fail prematurely. Maybe this is not an issue for a PC but for PS5 it is.
