Crucial P5 2TB 3D NAND NVMe Internal Gaming SSD, up to 3400MB/s - CT2000P5SSD8

I use it for my OS and gaming and i absolutely love its overall speed’s and utility. The downloadable software’s from the manufacturers website is actually good if you are switching from sata hdd/ssd. I cloned my main os drive in under 30 minutes and booted to my bios and forced the boot options to the new NVMe first. Then once i was booted into Windows i wiped my old sata ssd and now use it for my production only.

Coming from a traditional Samsung SSD which I thought was fast this absolutely ousts it! I made this my C: drive and put a fresh install of windows 10 on it. Id say from off to fully loaded takes about 10 - 15 seconds. There are never any hiccups and daily use is snappy and buttery smooth.

Ive had this running in my system for a while and the best thing you can say about a hard drive is that I literally havent thought about it since getting over how fast it was. Its stable and fast. Very happy.

Easy to install, ordered wrong one at first ,( you need the nvme not the m.2 -The m.2 will have 2 notches, the nvme has only one notch )you can see the old 250 gb on right & just loosen 8 screws on bottom of laptop, pry apart the bottom from the case carefully like opening a clam :) you see the empty spot upper right where it goes. just a pocket screwdriver that you use for the bottom plate screws is the same as the single one for the harddrive they dont strip if you have a good one. I used a flathead pocket screw driver to pry apart the case & bottom. if you really wanted you could upgrade the ram for $50 but i think 8 gb is fine for home & small buisness use. Shopping, school, using our stores remote cameras, teamviewer ect this laptop is great & the only ones avail right now are the 250 GB ones so this is a great upgrade! Go into the bios, disable secure boot & made a bootable zip from microsoft & then installed linux mint for dual boot.

This NVME has been amazing for me and offers much faster speeds than my slow mechanical hard drive. It has been great for my use as my gaming drive and storing my larger games on there. Definitely recommend, especially if you can get it for the $80 like I did!

I upgraded my Dell G3 3779 laptop by replacing the original C: drive, a SK hynix 128 GB SSD, with this Crucial P5 1TB. Higher performance and much greater capacity. I used a USB 3.1 NVMe PCIe enclosure (amazon # B07MNFH1PX) to clone the SSD to the P5. I used the clone function from a free copy of Macrium Reflect rather than the Crucial version of Acronis True Image because Acronis requires installation of the new SSD before doing a clone & Macrium allowed me to do the clone prior to opening the laptop. Macrium also allowed for an easy resize of the main ssd partition to allow full use of the larger space. The install was pretty painless and the machine booted from the new drive immediately following the install. No problems & very happy with the result. I had verified compatibility via the Crucial configuration tool on their web site before ordering via Amazon. Crystal disk mark verified the drive met its published specs.

What I learned so far: Watch the price of this: it dropped $10 dollars the day after I ordered it (I cancelled & re-ordered it.) The screw to attach it SHOULD have come with your system. It doesnt come with the SSD because there are too many versions. Do use a magnetized screwdriver to attach it. Dont go King Kong on it. The Acronis free Clone program does work, but it is a SLOW, slow process... be very patient. The last step to disconnect the original source drive.... Im NOT doing that! Instead, use your BIOS to set the new SSD as the FIRST boot drive and remove any HDD references (leave DVD & USB boots as alternates) Then use DRIVE Manager to set sames and drive letters. The Crucial Executive Storage Tool; used it to increase speed and efficiency. Did not have any issues with it, although you can bollox things up if you ignore the warning... read the instructions! This is not cutting edge tech so its not for super-gamers, but its a solid performer from a respected company. In a few days, once I have some backups of the new boot drive I trust, Ill reformat the original 1Tb HDD as a data drive. Danger, Danger... Ignore my suggestion to not remove the Source Drive!! ALL Internal HDDs must be disconnected so the system will set the SSD as Drive 0 & as Primary on first boot! Before the next boot the HDDs can be reconnected. Doing otherwise created a FrankenSystem, booting from the original 0 Drive then loading the OS from the SSD.... APPEARS TO WORK, but it is wrong..

Bought this drive as a fast access storage drive for video games that require a lot of disk use. At time of review I’ve had it in use for 6 months, great speed and reliability so far. This is my first crucial purchase and I’d definitely do it again.

Fast

The physical installation of the SSD 1TB was very straightforward enough. However the cloning of the drive and installation as the main drive in a laptop with only 1 available PCIe slot was not as clearly to do. Unlike the many other possible computer configurations that are clearly outlined with the numerous easy to follow videos. My HP 15-ef1003ds laptop required 1 part more reading, 2 parts more of watching videos and 7 parts more guess work, in order to get it running as my primary drive. But in the end it was well worth the extra effort because with the included software that was free I now have faster laptop with a larger capacity drive all at a very reasonable price. And thanks to crucials compatibility program I didnt waste 5 days to only realize that it wasnt going to work for me and instead in under 2 hours I now have what I wanted. You can be sure that when I am ready to upgrade the memory from its current 8gb to its max of 32gb I will be buying crucials 32gb kit without a second of hesitation.
