Epson Home Cinema 3200 4K PRO-UHD 3-Chip Projector with HDR

Awesome quality.

I have a dedicated home theater room with a 120 inch screen, surround sound, etc. I had a Panasonic projector that did OK for a number of years but its now about 8 years old and I was getting more and more disappointed with the image quality even though its a 1080 projector. My problem was that Id see something on my LG OLED and the Panasonic didnt come close. Theres also the fact that it was getting old and I wanted a better picture. Ive waited and waited for better projectors to hit the market. I wanted 4K but the prices were prohibitive. But, manufacturers started selling sorta 4K (my term) with HDR. So, I jumped in with this one. Setup was incredibly simple. I plugged in my HDMI cable, plugged in the power, turned it on and voila - it worked. I had to mess with it for a bit for my screen size and I had to dial down the color mode. The factory preset was dynamic which would probably be great for a bright family room but in my blacked out theater room - not so much. On that subject. There are four color mode presets - dynamic, bright cinema, natural, and cinema. You can change settings within each of these and you can save those changes. I have mine hanging from the ceiling and was able to adjust everything so the picture was straight on the screen. I dont use the speakers but I did give them a try so I could see what they were like. Theyre pretty average stereo speakers that do an OK job. If I was using this now and then in a family room or at work Id be happy with the sound but I prefer my 7.2 home theater setup. With 3000 lumens and 100,000:1 contrast ratio youd expect a great picture and you wouldnt be wrong. Like I said before, I had to dial the brightness down for my home theater but its nice to have it if I ever need it. I purposely watched the same movie (Avatar) back to back with my old Panasonic and then the Epson. No contest. The Epson was significantly sharper and brighter (in a good way) than my old 1080 projector. After movies, I fired up the XBox and played some games. I dont have any 4K games but the games I do have were much crisper than they were with the Panasonic. Ive tweaked a few settings since I got comfortable with this projector mostly because I could. Other than the color mode (brightness) it was really OK out of the box. Is it better than my 1080 projector? Heck yes. Is it better than my LG 65 inch OLED? No but its a heck of a lot closer than before.

I recently upgraded my Optima and this was a great choice. A little bigger (heavier) than the previous projector. But the image quality and especially sound (very quiet) was well worth the price. I love the colors and blacks. I use it in my sunroom (with darkening shades), but it is even presentable in the daylight. But at night or a darken room is where it really shines. Good investment for movie night and general tv watch with an Apple tv.

Sorry amazons, I am not really a person into the details of the projector for I my main purpose is to watch movies and sports. One good feature that I like is the Bluetooth. I have an old Denon Amplifier and did not want to run a cable by cutting thru the dry wall and all that pain so I purchased this Bluetooth receive and connected in a seconds. I tested the audio for a lag and personally I did not see any lag. The BT receiver is about 20ft from the projector and see no breaks in voice for now. My main purpose of writing the review is that I searched for BT devices that support the Eposn 3800 aptX Bluetooth technology and found no answers only to find this device and had it shipped overnight for a small fee. We placed the unit about 18’ away from the screen wall, and the diagonal is about 160”. Even stretched to this size it is as clear or better than my 70” flatscreen! Never expected it to look this good.

Projectors have to serve a lot of different needs. Some people need them to be used in a brightly sunlit room during the day. Others need them for 3d movies. Others need the projector for text and images. All of us probably want a great picture and large screen wow experience. I have a dedicated theater room that is painted with dark brown walls and ceiling and blackout curtains. It is like a movie theater. I do not have to worry about brightness of the projector. That gives me some tradeoffs with this projector. This projector is EXCELLENT for a bright room that needs extra lamp power to overcome the brightness. For me, that means I can run in ECO mode and the fan is reduced and the brightness is still very good - and my blacks are better too. This is a pretty good projector for a theater room setup. It is also pretty good for a sunlit room setup as well, but you will experience tradeoffs. By running in full brightness mode at an insane 2900 lumens, the projector can actually be functional in a bright room. The fan will run a good deal more, and it will be noisier to overcome this - but it is better than having a weak picture. The colors are bright and saturated and the image is CRISP and CLEAR. For those who care about the details, it is not a true 4k picture, but for practical purposes and to many people, it is so well done that it gives the performance of a 4k picture at a fraction of the cost. Right now, a true 4k projector is VERY EXPENSIVE. The Epson Home Cinema 3800 4K PRO-UHD 3-Chip Projector with HDR gives you the look and feel of a true 4k image without the obscene price of a true 4k projector. It is large too - in most installed setups, this should not matter. If you are carrying it around as a portable unit, this could matter. Overall, this is a great budget choice projector that can handle very bright room installations (think of a living room with windows that dont get completely dark or a classroom or court room or business conference room.) If you are a true aficionado of high end projectors, this may fall a slight bit under the top end projectors, but it also falls a good bit under the prices of those projectors. I have a lot of friends who have MUCH CHEAPER projectors than this, so it is a fairly upper-mid-range projector and you will absolutely appreciate the many extras and higher performance of this projector. It does 3D and it will absolutely handle a bright room - feature that a great many people need and wish for. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a GREAT PROJECTOR at a price point of around $1,500. I would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends and Epson is a great brand name and projectors are one of their EXCEPTIONAL product lines. One comment on that... Most companies are known for being really great at CERTAIN PRODUCTS. Epson is known for printer and another one of their excellent products is PROJECTORS. Right now, with the exit of Panasonic from the projector market, Epson is very possibly right there with Sony and maybe one other brand among the top-3 projector companies out there. You cannot go wrong with this projector in my opinion as long as you know the quirks and they dont affect your situation. Purchased this projector To replace an older JVC model. Projector throw and keystone Our video room has a 106” diagonal screen and the dimensions required a projector with a 16ft throw. This projector advertised a 2.14 throw ratio and performed as expected for our application (16ft distance to screen) Very good screen brightness is achieved (outperforming the replaced JVC) using standard brightness setting The keystone adjustment is easy to use and allows picture to screen alignment with no visible distortion.( ideally projector needs to be positioned to minimize keystone adjustment Manual focus and zoom setting is easy to set and appears to stay on adjustment. However, remote set-up for focus, zoom and keystone Would be and outstanding addition to this projector. Noise level is noticeable acceptable in our application Overall picture quality is excellent at 1080p, not yet tested at 4K. Great value for the price.

This one had really bad picture quality.

This projector has all the bells and whistles that one would want in a modern projector. The projector accepts a wide range of placement from 4 feet to 30 feet and this should fit most use case scenarios. The picture was sharp, detailed and bright after calibrating. The fan noise was acceptable in a normal apartment. PROS - image quality is top notch with 4K source and pixel shifting - capable of up to 3000 lumen brightness, but you wont come anywhere near this once calibrated - full 10 bit color gamut - HDMI 2.0 for 18 Gb/s throughput - low input lag (in the mid 20s ms), great for gaming - built in 10W speakers an also capable of Bluetooth aptX output CONS - Not true 4K but unless you have another few thousand you want to shell out, this is the best it gets - No optical digital audio out, audio out is analog only using 3.5mm stereo jack

Just got this projector replacing my Panasonic 720p projector which worked nicely for 15 years but now with 4K content available I thought I would get this to start with watching the Super Bowl. First impression is it’s amazing upgrading from the 720p. Colors are rich and crisp. Lots of keystone adjustments available to fix the alignment since my previous projector was not aligned center of the room and I used the same ceiling frame to hang this projector. Couldn’t step away watching a movie or HD/4K content. I am still using a very old HDMI cable and yet getting very good picture - not sure if I have to upgrade it. Overall, after two days of using it, just impressed how good the experience is. Will know more after tomorrow’s super bowl game. Definitely recommend over buying a large OLED TV.
