Greater than one weekBack in the 1990s and 2000s I had several Epson projectors and generally they were refurbished units. They all performed very well and I could see no difference in quality from a new unit. This year I have tried two Epson products, the LS300 ultra short throw and this unit the Home Cinema 3800 and both were refurbished and both had issues and were defective. The 3800 has bad and crackling speakers and when they did so, it would cause the image to flicker. Also the video playback would randomly shut off by itself and the unit would power down. Also the remote would not power down the unit. In order to turn it off, you had to turn it off at the unit. Also the 4k image quality has not as expected. The black levels were not good. There were no blacks just light greys. Black levels were far better on SD but still not great. 4k playback looked very good in bright scenes and dismal in dark scenes. This was actually the same with the LS300 which had an alleged contrast ratio or 1000,000:1 but it looked more like 5000:1. Maybe this was due to the units being refurbished but possible Epson is simply not what it used to be.

Greater than one weekWorks quite well right out of the box. There are some issues getting focus perfect in all areas of the screen, but installation went really quick to replace older 720p DLP ceiling mount unit in the same spot. The flexibility of the throw distance made this the right choice. Wide range on optics for zoom and lens shift allow it to go right up. However, as discussed in some forums, it obviously wants a perfectly perpendicular lens geometry for accurate focus. Any down tilt for ceiling throw off keystone and thus requires minor compromise on perfection. I may have to lower the mount to get this right. However, that said for the money this does seem to a sweet spot right now. I wish I waited a few more days because it looks like it is about to break some more on the price, making it even sweeter. I expect that trend to continue over the next few weeks.

Greater than one weekI got this Epson Home Cinema Projector to place in another room that Im working on turning into a mini home theater in my house. I own another Epson projector and Ive been very pleased with their quality, so I expected just the same out of this one. The most amazing part about this projector is the absolutely excellent video quality. It transmits using 4K PRO-UHD technology, which I really dont understand a lot about. But it basically helps to improve the resolution, color, and image processing. Its got a 3-chip that puts out just beautiful and vibrant color while using pixel-shifting. The brightness is also exceptional and seems to be just perfect for any viewing experience. Its got a multitude of connections including: 2 HDMI ports, USB, and a 3.5 mm audio out. I wish it came with an optical audio output, but I guess thats starting to be replaced by HDMI anyway. The projection can output all the way up to a 150 display, but I dont think I even have space for that in the room Im using. Im currently using a 120 projection with the projector set back about 12 feet, which is just perfect for what I need. I mounted mine to the ceiling using one of the mounting kits that you can buy, so thats something youll want to consider most likely. You can also set it up on a tabletop, but Id imagine thats probably not the best scenario for most people. You might also consider buying a projector screen for placing on the wall to get the absolute best display. So prospective buyers should consider factoring those additional costs into their budget on top of the price of the projector. Finally, Ive been able to connect all of my peripheral devices without any issues including: Amazon Fire Stick, laptop, PS4, blu-ray dvd player, and DirecTV receiver. Overall Im extremely satisfied and impressed with the quality and performance of this Epson Home Cinema Projector. The amazing video quality and incorporated technology make this an amazing projector that can be had at a reasonable price when you consider that a lot of 4K projectors run around $5,000 or more.

> 3 dayProjectors have to serve a lot of different needs. Some people need them to be used in a brightly sunlit room during the day. Others need them for 3d movies. Others need the projector for text and images. All of us probably want a great picture and large screen wow experience. I have a dedicated theater room that is painted with dark brown walls and ceiling and blackout curtains. It is like a movie theater. I do not have to worry about brightness of the projector. That gives me some tradeoffs with this projector. This projector is EXCELLENT for a bright room that needs extra lamp power to overcome the brightness. For me, that means I can run in ECO mode and the fan is reduced and the brightness is still very good - and my blacks are better too. This is a pretty good projector for a theater room setup. It is also pretty good for a sunlit room setup as well, but you will experience tradeoffs. By running in full brightness mode at an insane 2900 lumens, the projector can actually be functional in a bright room. The fan will run a good deal more, and it will be noisier to overcome this - but it is better than having a weak picture. The colors are bright and saturated and the image is CRISP and CLEAR. For those who care about the details, it is not a true 4k picture, but for practical purposes and to many people, it is so well done that it gives the performance of a 4k picture at a fraction of the cost. Right now, a true 4k projector is VERY EXPENSIVE. The Epson Home Cinema 3800 4K PRO-UHD 3-Chip Projector with HDR gives you the look and feel of a true 4k image without the obscene price of a true 4k projector. It is large too - in most installed setups, this should not matter. If you are carrying it around as a portable unit, this could matter. Overall, this is a great budget choice projector that can handle very bright room installations (think of a living room with windows that dont get completely dark or a classroom or court room or business conference room.) If you are a true aficionado of high end projectors, this may fall a slight bit under the top end projectors, but it also falls a good bit under the prices of those projectors. I have a lot of friends who have MUCH CHEAPER projectors than this, so it is a fairly upper-mid-range projector and you will absolutely appreciate the many extras and higher performance of this projector. It does 3D and it will absolutely handle a bright room - feature that a great many people need and wish for. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a GREAT PROJECTOR at a price point of around $1,500. I would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends and Epson is a great brand name and projectors are one of their EXCEPTIONAL product lines. One comment on that... Most companies are known for being really great at CERTAIN PRODUCTS. Epson is known for printer and another one of their excellent products is PROJECTORS. Right now, with the exit of Panasonic from the projector market, Epson is very possibly right there with Sony and maybe one other brand among the top-3 projector companies out there. You cannot go wrong with this projector in my opinion as long as you know the quirks and they dont affect your situation. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me via my Amazon Profile and I will try to get back to you asap. I take great pride in trying to help others know which products are good and which ones to avoid. I feel like we can all help each other by doing a great job of letting others know our experience with the products we buy here on Amazon and I think it is very rewarding to know that I have helped someone choose the right product for their situation. Thank you so much for reading this review!

> 3 dayI found this projector to be too bright for a 84 diagonal screen. Beyond putting the lamp in ECO mode, there is no variable lamp brightness control. I spoke with epson customer service and they confirmed this. The projector is great during the day, but it is blinding at night, even on its dimmest setting. It seems like other epson projectors have a 30-100% lamp brightness control, but not this one. Its too bad because it is hard to find a 4k projector with a long-throw lens like this one has. Otherwise, the projector seemed great. If you have ambient light or a much larger screen, this would be a good choice.
