When I went to take apart our 20 year old Lasko fan to clean it I Googled how to disassemble the specific model and unfortunately discovered it had been recalled due to a fire issue. I called Lasko and asked about a replacement, but the recall was so old, they were only able to provide me with the part that attaches to the cord to repair the fan. I am paranoid about fires, so I cut the cord, recycled the bulk of the plastic and tossed the remainder of the motor and started to search for a new fan. I assumed (sigh) that a commercial grade metal fan would be my best option for a replacement as we used our fan for noise elimination more than airflow. Here is the deal on this fan: It is not loud. Compared to a plastic Lasko Wind Machine we purchased a couple months ago, this metal Lasko fan is quiet. It has a weird high pitch whirring noise that my husband says sounds like a small airplane. The difference between the 1-2-3 settings is almost not there. We had a hard time telling when the fan was turned up or down. The wind or air movement is impressive when compared to the Lasko Wind Machine (plastic). Our Aussie loves to lay in front of the fan and she sat in front of the metal Lasko and with her fur blowing around her face. The plastic Lasko, is loud, but it does not move the air nearly as well. This fan is really easy to put together. It snaps in two parts and the controls attach on the side. There is a clamp for the window that we have not used, so I do not know how difficult it is. The fan itself is not heavy, so its easy to move around. Honestly, if you can handle the whir, and dont need the fan for noise reduction, this is the fan for you. If you want a noisy fan that blows air, go with the Lasko Wind Machine (plastic).

We had a few 20 floor fans made by another company that were black plastic and worked wonderfully. Three speeds on those and there were definite differences in those speeds. They operated extremely quietly. However, our children have managed to borrow them to get them thru hot spells and somehow they have never seen our house again. :-) Lasko was highly recommended so we tried this model to see how it compared. It does deliver huge volumes of air and pushes it at high speeds, cooling areas quickly. But, as some reviews pointed out, it is very, very noisy. The fan speeds of low, medium and high are all very strong air pushers, and I think the speed of the blades causes a loud, constant whoosh sound. At times the noise, even at the lowest setting turns into a sharp whine. Not a fan you would want during a dinner meal or while watching TV unless you dont mind turning the volume up to high. I put it next to my bed one evening when the air conditioner was off and tilted it up so it would blow on me. I love to be cool during sleep. Before I got into bed, I turned it on. First it blew off the bedspread and then the sheet! Very powerful! But, by tucking my covers under me, I got a beautiful, cool nights rest. It has other advantages as well that compensate for the noisiness. A hard rain and wind storm blew rain into our 24 x 24 garage, flooding it to well over an inch deep in every area. After pushing most of the water out of the garage with squeegee brooms once the storm ended, I set the fan to blow the floor in order to dry it completely. It was fantastic! In a very few hours the entire floor was completely dry, including some of the small puddles that had been left after sweeping. All in all, a great fan. For living areas where noise is a concern, another model would be better suited.

Very strong, but makes a noise that varies in db/frequency on 2 out of the settings, so it becomes and extreme nuisance. I ordered two times to see if it was the unit or model, and both had the same problem

As I write this review Im being cooled and blown away by this powerful fan. Even on the lowest of the 3 speeds this fan moves a lot of air. Solidly built and well designed, Ive purchased 2 of these fans and will probably purchase more.

The fan puts out powerful cool air! Loud white noise! Love it! It was time to pull it out again (purchased last summer) for another season of hot weather. Great buy!

Do not buy a bunch of box fans. Get 1 of these and WOW! Cheers! No Remote Control. Like we need another remote control. TV, DVD, Blu Ray, Play station, Home theater AV unit, STOP !!!! No More Remotes.

Ive had this fan for a couple months now and Im very pleased with it. I didnt want to just get a cheap plastic fan (Ive had plenty of those). So I spent a little more money and so far am happy I did. Hopefully this fan will last a few years, making it a solid investment. It is all metal, with metal blades. This fan does have the capacity to be mounted on the wall, but I have not done that so I cant review that aspect of the product. I just have my fan on the floor and thats good enough for me. I have a room in my home that was not getting cool enough this summer. The central A/C vent in that room blows out cool air, but its just not enough to accommodate the size of the room. So I purchased this fan to see if it would help. I placed the fan on the opposite end of the room from where the A/C vent is, so that the fan is blowing toward the A/C vent. It works wonderfully. This is a powerful fan and has tremendous velocity at the lowest setting (it has low-med-high settings). I usually just run it on low and it keeps my room cool. There were a few days when it was hotter and more humid outside, and the room just wasnt getting cool enough for me, so I turned the fan up on high and that did the trick. Because this is a heavy-duty, high-velocity fan, I suppose it is a bit loud even on the lowest setting. But Im one of those people who likes the sound of a fan so its hard for me to comment on this aspect. It is noticeably louder if you increase the setting. I suppose some people might think that the high setting sounds a bit like a jet engine. But again, Im just trying to be as objective as I can since the noise this fan produces doesnt bother me one bit, even on high. For me, the sound of this fan is very relaxing. In its defense, it is a very smooth sound. There is no annoying rattling or vibrating or anything like that - those type of noises DO bother me. This is just a nice, smooth fan sound that happens to be loud because it is pushing the air so forcefully. Some people might find this helpful if they want to block out outside noises, particularly if they work at night and have to try to sleep during the day. If you are one of those people, this is an excellent fan to serve your purpose. There are rubber feet on the bottom which help prevent vibration-type noise, and also helps keep the fan from sliding around - although it is so solid that it probably wouldnt slide anyway, except possibly on the highest setting. This fan is quite a bit heavier than a plastic fan, but I see that as a good thing. Thats what I wanted - a solid, sturdy fan as opposed to a lightweight, flimsy plastic thing. You dont have to worry about accidentally tipping it over. I recommend this this product. It is MUCH more powerful than a cheap, plastic fan. Very solid, all-metal construction. High velocity pushes much more air and does a much better job of cooling a room.
