I got this to read fine print, which I don’t see as well as I once did. Overall, a decent magnifier that’s up to this task. Pros • Clear image • Uniform image quality across most of the field of view Cons • A bit on the heavy side, but that’s what obtains with a glass lens • Battery cover can be a bit difficult to open • The light could be a bit brighter—but this isn’t a serious shortcoming • Magnification is much closer to 3× than to the stated 30× I have difficulty believing that the 30× magnification is a mistake rather than intentionally misleading advertising. For several reasons, it’s simply impossible to have a true 30× magnifier with an 80 mm lens. A rigorous determination of the actual magnification isn’t difficult, but a very simple test suffices to show that this magnifier isn’t anywhere close to 30×: if 12 point type were viewed with a true 30× magnifier, it would appear to be 5″ high, which clearly isn’t the case here. And frankly, who would want it to be? For most people for most of the uses mentioned here, there is little use for more than 3–4× magnification. Higher-powered magnifiers—usually called loupes—have their uses, but the greater magnification comes at a cost. As magnification increases, the field of view and working distance decrease. And the depth of field decreases, making it imperative to keep the distance very constant. And a good loupe is considerably more expensive. If you want to examine gems or the stylus on a phono cartridge (assuming you’ve even heard of the latter), this isn’t the right tool. But for us older folks who insist on reading the fine print, this magnifier works just fine—and I would recommend it.

I have a rare condition that has caused me to dearly value this product. I initially bought it to help me see things up close, as my cataracts became worse. When I had one cataract removed, the Dr. damaged the lens sack so as not to allow a replacement lens to be installed. So I have one eye that still has a bad cataract and is useless; and I have one eye without a lens. The lensless eye is very blurry and I cant see with any definition. Im legally blind, awating some heart work before correcting the eye situation. NOW THE PURPOSE of this narrative is to offer help to any others with my problem! One day as I sat working at my computer, wih my magnifier pressed against my lensless eye to see my monitor, I listened to a TV news program across the room (about 6), I heard a news alert and automatically turned my head (with the magnifier still presssed to my face) toward the TV, AND I could see the TV screen very clearly (great definition)! Then I found out that I could see clearly at greater distances (like down a long street) Hallelujah!! Of course the lens is only a few inches in diameter, but you can move your head from side to side to get a panoramic view. This has given me great relief as, without this device I would be more severely handicapped and depressed. Normal sighted people would have no way to discover this power, so its important to make this info known. In fact, the manufacturer/seller should make it known as a use. Only negative I have to say is that the light switch fails after a lot of use and I tried cleaning my 1st magnifiers lens with eyelass lens cleaner and damaged the lens, so I bought a 2nd unit, and eventually the switch became really flaky so I bought a 3rd unit. These positives of this product far ouyweigh the negatives. ...also, price is good! Hope this helps someone out there! Regards, Arizona Bill

Print on some things were becoming harder to read. Just a magnifying glass wasnt enough. This with light attached, makes big difference. Easy to install batteries. Love it.

Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. It is advertised as having a 30X magnification. I think that number is way way off. I think it is really 3x magnification. This is not backed up with a scientific test on my part. In my layman terms, I think that is all that it is. With that being said, it is perfect for what I bought if for. The lights on it really work well. The glass lense, and not being plastic was a major plus. The price was very reasonable I can recommend it on the contingency that you dont expect it to magnify 30X. I bought it to read tiny instructions that seem to be the norm these days and it suited me fine for that. I think if it truly magnified 30X it would be way to powerful and annoying to use.

I liked this so much that I ordered a second one. It is really handy to read any kind of small print on labels or whatever. Great for anyone to have on hand.

This product is so good. The glass is very clear it’s not like other ones. I’ve tried that scratch up.

It’s a little chunkier then I thought it would be. But otherwise it works fine.

This thing is amazing, but I bought it for getting part numbers out of computers. I didnt realize how BIG this thing is. So if you need to fenagle your way into small spaces, maybe look into something a little smaller. Otherwise its amazing. Its really my own fault.
