I ordered it for my hubbys shop but, instead I use it in our RV. It works great for small spaces

I like the vacuum, it works well. They really should remove the momentary switch and install a push-on push-off switch.

Same cracks as everyone else. Design flaw. Uneven force will be applied to this spot when connecting and using daily. The crack WILL happen eventually to each and every unit; whether it will break catastrophically will vary. I did the same thing as AJ, one of the reviewers here by cutting off the bottom of a 30mm A-10 Warthog shot glass and used the tube as reinforcement. I had 6 of those shot glasses lying around so his idea made wonders. What I did extra was adding JB Weld to both surfaces (scuff the plastic and metal before applying the glue). I hammered the tube down gently. Once its settled, this spot becomes much stronger and doesnt look ugly. This repair should be done early on instead of waiting till the cracks develop further. BTW, the new version of this vacuum now uses clip in style instead of friction - which I believe to be no good because the weak spot remains weak while you no longer have the option to mend it by adding a straight tube. The picture shows that I cut the tube longer to the edge of spout. Picture uploading function is not available now. Still dont know why there is no uploading pic button anymore...

Thought we could buy a hand held rechargeable in the $35 range, and you can. Talked to a couple of friends who shared stories of battery failures, broken components that are not available for replacement on the budget models. THIS VACUUM IS AWESOME! As I already own many 18v LI battery Makita tools and batteries, it was the logical choice. Most of our floors are hardwood and this vacuum does an outstanding job cleaning up after our three Westhighland White terriers and a ginger cat. Very light and maneuverable, will access many places our ac powered vac wont go. Wont replace our ac vac for our deep pile carpeted areas where a beater bar is a must.

Bought this for my wife to use to clean about 1,000 sq ft of hardwood floors that have a lot of dog hair accumulation. Like other Makita tools it is decent quality. But some of the reviews were right...the junction of the vacuum and the hose is lose and the hose falls off frequently. I used sand paper to rough up the inside and outside parts which helps a little but it still falls out. And you need the the additional cyclone attachment (another $30 to $40) to make it easy to dump out. That part works fine but it too falls off frequently. If they would have put a ridge that tightens by turning, to keep these pieces together that would have been better. And the attachment for hardwood floors only has an opening of 8 1/8 inches. So you can only clean about 6 inches if you want to overlap a little, which takes a long time to clean a decent size area. I looked for a longer brush attachment and did not find anything from Makina, so I bought one from a vacuum store on line, in the same size, 1-1/4 inch hose, only to find it was a female joint, same as the end of the tube on the Makita I wanted to attach it to. So it would not go on. I used duct tape but that would not allow my wife to take the attachment off, and it did not hold up either, so I then ordered two male pieces from the on line vacuum store, that I plan to epoxy together to get two male ends, to attach the 12 inch brush. The floor attachment provided by Makina has a plastic base and plastic rollers that scratch the floor too (we have hardwood and live near the beach, so there is a lot of sand to vacuum up). The 12 inch attachment that I bought separately has soft bristles all along the bottom on all four sides which does not scratch anything and moves across the floor very easily. So I want to somehow make that attachment work. The battery is heavy. It has a fan on the charger that makes a noise when charging, which was not expected. I have many other battery chargers but none have a fan and the others are in the garage where a little noise does not matter. Getting the battery off the charger is a little tricky too. So overall I was not 100% happy with this product. It seems like Makita made just another product that could be used along with their other battery-operated tools, and did not spend enough time designing this, and getting customer feedback. I have several Makita drills that are outstanding and I expected this vacuum to be outstanding too, but in my view it was disappointing.

Bought this for quick pick-ups in the laundry room where the cats litter box is kept. So good, I use it for quick pick-ups around the whole house. I use Milwaukee batteries and bought an 18 volt Milwaukee to Makita battery adapter on Amazon for $12. Works great!

Its a pretty good little vacuum, for the price, size and weight it has pretty good suction and the Makita swappable battery makes it easy for longer use. Two things, the down tube is pretty short so if youre taller than about 56 you have to hunch over to vacuum. Not a biggie. My reason for 3 stars overall is - it has 4 little roller wheels on the bottom of the vac head and they snap in place with little metal axel rods. When you transition from carpet to hardwood or roll across tile with grout cracks, the rollers come out. Frequently. The roller wheel is easy to find, the little metal axel rod is harder to find depending on your flooring. I own two different models of this thing - one of the white ones and one of the blue ones and both have the same defect.

I found this a good tool for areas that require cleaning between your usual routine with a more powerful vacuum. Like at entrance areas, around kitchen table and counters. Computer stations, etc. Great on staircases. Look at this tool as being designed for convenience. It will not replace a full size canister or upright vacuum. The filter will require cleaning every time you use it. I use a small brush to brush off the filter and the inside of the filter canister housing the filter. The filter bag can be placed over 3 or 4 fingers and clapped in your hands to shake out fine dust. It can also be hand washed and left to dry before reinstalling. I think the reason for some bad reviews are: Not cleaning the filter when dirty. Not reassembling the unit correctly after cleaning. Attempting to do jobs meant for a full size vacuum. This may be one of the lightest duty vacuums on the market. And one of the most convenient. Either use it as such, or dont buy this unit. The reason I bought two of them is I already have Makita power tools with batteries and charger. The batteries are shared among all my tools. I would probably not have made these vacuum purchases if I had to buy batteries for each vacuum. I think the price of this unit is at the reasonable limit before batteries are added to the price. If you need to buy batteries and charger just for this unit alone, I would look elsewhere. The one and 2 star reviews didnt read the user manual.

Previous reviewers that did not love this thing (excepting any who received a damaged product) must have had incredibly positive experiences with vacuums in their past. How can you not love it? A few years ago, I moved into a home with a central vac system. The adorable former owner left me a note calling the vacuum head and tubing my new best friend. Well... it was (and is) a close relationship, to be sure, but one fraught with problems. Honestly, I never want to vacuum unless I have a full hour to lug that thing around, find an outlet, constantly move outlets, and lug it back to the storage closet. Therefore, I went from happily vacuuming once a week to ... oh, once monthly, whether it needs it or not. See my difficulty here? The situation was not good. So I knew I needed something for light jobs, quick pick-ups, and the stairwells on the periphery of the central vacs range. This unit is inexpensive and well-rated, comparatively. It arrived promptly as Prime items do, and I assembled it without even taking the instruction manual out of the box. It worked immediately after assembly and I spent about 10 minutes testing it out before the partially-charged battery (like cell phones this comes with a battery that needs to be fully charged) started to dwindle. Setting off to plug in the charger, I glanced down at my unit expecting to find a little bit of fluff in the chamber but it was FULL of lint. (I know what youre thinking... DUH lady- if you only vacuum once a month! but I really did not think I had gotten so much dirt in that time- verifying the suction DOES WORK in this puppy.) Im a traditionalist, and I do appreciate loyalty, but my central vac comes out for traditional housekeeping only. This unit is my new main sweetheart. And did I mention what a delight it is to have it in the car? How I have lived so long without this gem I can only wonder. While you can buy a better stick vacuum, you cant for this price.
