Let me start with build quality. Its questionable. I ordered two. One came with an open crack between the two halves of the plastic body because the unit had not been assembled correctly. Fortunately, I was able to take it apart and re-assemble it. It is worth noting that there are no rubber gaskets or other seals to keep water out of the main housing. The two rubber outlet covers which were black in the product photos are actually yellow. They are very supple and seem to provide a good seal when inserted into the receptacles. (The only seal in the entire product.) However, when they are not inserted into the receptacles, they hang between the two receptacles from a very, very thin strip of rubber. It is not hard to imagine them getting accidentally torn off, but thats not even the biggest problem with them. It is almost impossible to plug in two cords at the same time because the products two receptacles are placed fairly close together and those hanging covers get in the way. You have to really pull the covers out of the way with some force to insert a second plug. It seems inevitable that the rubber covers will get torn off. If the designers had hung the covers in any other direction, this problem would have been averted. Similar products all get this right. Only meross gets it wrong. (Its worth noting that meross offers another version of this product—same model number but different housing—that does solve this problem...while creating another.) The biggest design hassle for me is the plug end of this product—the one that gets inserted into your AC receptacle. This is a product designed to be used outdoors. The designer should absolutely assume it is going to be plugged in inside a weather housing, yet meross drops the ball here too. The plug points down at a 90-degree angle. This means if you plug it into the top outlet, you cant use the bottom outlet. If you plug it into the bottom outlet, you cant close the door of the weather housing. If you want to use two of these units together, forget it. You cant. Attaching the cord to the plug at a 45-degree angle would have completely solved this problem. As is, there is no solution. So is there anything good about this product? Absolutely. It was easy to connect to HomeKit. Once you switch your iPhone over to the products ad hoc wifi signal while you set it up, everything works exactly like it should. And the product allows you to control each outlet independently. In fact, functionally, this product checks all the boxes. Unfortunately, its physical design is a deal killer.

Product worked great for the first few months, but then suddenly I would get the “this accessory is not responding message” every time I would open Apple Home kit to use. After reconnecting, it works for about 5 minutes then it is unresponsive again. Maybe it’s an issue with Apple Home and not the device, however, I run into issues using the Meross app, too so seems like it’s a deck code issue. Great when it worked, but it usually doesn’t and not worth the hassle of having to reconnect every time I want to turn the outdoor string lights on.

Lately Ive been adding more smart home devices to my home (primarily revolving around Apple HomeKit), and I needed a HomeKit-compatible outdoor smart plug to control my workshop lights. The area I was going to use the smart plug was prone to being exposed to the elements, so I required an outdoor-spec smart plug. Based on the fact that my last two Meross smart home products (the garage opened and the indoor plugs) worked out great, I decided to try their outdoor plug. Out of the box, it was a lot smaller than I was expecting - the Meross Outdoor Smart Plug was replacing a similar remote-controlled plug (using a radio-frequency push-button fob) but it took a lot less space on the back of my workbench where I have all my cables organized. I also like how the rubber plugs (that are used to seal the plug holes when not in use) are attached to the housing, so I wont lose them if ever I have to unplug something in the future. With the smart plug attached to my workbench, I plugged in the smart plug, pulled out my iPhone, and went straight to the Home app. What I like about Meross products is that you do not need to install the Meross app to use them with Apple HomeKit; you can add Meross products to your smart home via the Home app directly; this was also true with their outdoor smart plug. All of the Meross products that Ive purchased so far have the required HomeKit QR code decal, making setup and installation a quick job. You can install the Meross app optionally if you want a single interface for just your Meross devices, but its not necessary. Now that I have integrated my workshop lights into my smart home, another smart convenience has been achieved! The response of the Meross Outdoor Smart Plug is quick and lag-free, it works with Siri commands (mine is Hey Siri, turn my garage lamps on) and it is exactly the smart plug that I was looking for.

This is a sturdy, easy to use unit with reliable Alexa integration. Even though it’s only rated for 10 amps or 1250 watts, it uses a higher grade, weather resistant 14 AWG electrical cable rated as SJTW, 105C. The outlets are plugged with thick rubber caps that look like they’ll hold up well. Setup is simple, thanks to well written instructions and a good app. There’s a separate set of instructions for the Homekit users too. It has a handy notch to mount the outlet to the wall (though I wish this was offset so that the screw would be accessible). There’s also a little loop on the strain relief that can serve a similar purpose. The app is great. It does a good job of guiding the setup process and it seems to be written by someone who understands English like a native speaker. Once set up, the app has a couple features that are sometimes overlooked: a countdown timer so that the outlet will automatically turn off after X minutes and an option to turn off the LEDS. Plus, there’s a widget to control devices directly from the homescreen. Also, it has one essential feature that every manufacturer ought to have: a direct link to the manual. Alexa integration works flawlessly and the wifi range seems good. Alexa commands are carried out reliably and with no more than a couple seconds delay. Alexa routines also work well. Each plug can be named and addressed independently. The unit as a whole can also be named. (Hint: use names that sounds distinctly different.) Right now I have the unit about 150’ from an access point, going through half a dozen walls, in a RF congested area and I’ve had zero issues.

Had very hard time to set them up. Failed multiple times. Working well now.

I now have several of these devices in my HomeKit network. I am slowly replacing other outdoor switches as they are much less reliable, requiring periodic unplugging and replugging to get them to respond again. These Meross outdoor switches stay connected and work as advertised. I dont think I have had a single disconnection with them yet! Once or twice I have had to struggle a bit to set them up initially, but in those situations a second try always worked.

I first tried Meross when I bought a couple of their Apple Homekit compatible controllers to automate some old style garage door openers. I was impressed with how easy they were to install and how reliable they were. I bought this weatherproof outdoor outlet so I can integrate my Christmas lights with Apple Home. The controller was easy to pair and competitively priced.

We used this to install Halloween decorations in our yard, which is was perfect for. Then it proceeded to stay out in the yard and get snowed and rained on for weeks before I finally had the presence of mind to bring it in. It was unfazed and still works great. A fantastic buy and does precisely what it says it will. The HomeKit integration is second to none, also, and is in fact better than on simile drives at twice the price. All the Meross stuff is great and this is no exception.

It took me perhaps seven minutes to get this set up to control some outdoor lights. You use your smartphone to set it up. The two sockets are individually controlled and offer a lot of power for the money. Both can be actuated manually via smartphone app, or via your home automation platform. Ours is an Apple household, so I used my iPhone to set it up and connect it to our houses HomeKit hub (an Apple TV) for secure Internet accessibility and programmability. Apple Homekit allowed me to set up an automation so that one of this units sockets (in our case, running some outdoor lights) turns on every evening at sunset, adjusting automatically for the season and Daylight Savings Time. The socket is then set to automatically turn off at 10:30 each night. The second socket well use for Christmas lights. This replaces a high-end outdoor timer that was always getting screwed up by power failures and of course the beginning and ending of Daylight Savings Time. (It was high end in the sense that its a model meant to last more than 18 months, which cheaper timers dont, in my experience.) The old timer is located in a really inconvenient place, so the remote controllability and programmability (via HomeKit) of this device really addresses a lot of frustrations! Physically, its just a sturdy AC cord with a plug on one end and the socket assembly on the other. Its not heavy and is meant to simply hang off a wall outlet. No mounting is required. Recommended! If any troubles develop, Ill update this review. Based on first impressions, its a solid five stars.
