Racor - PBH-1R, Bike Storage, Garage Pulley Lift

Greater than one weekIm a single mom and, overall, ended up buying about five of these so I could store all of our bikes during the winter. If you can use a tape measure, screwdriver, and can confidently locate the studs in your ceiling, you can put these up yourself. They worked great for storing our bikes through the winter and I could even heist them up high enough that I could park the front end of the car underneath. They are a bit inconvenient, however, for using every day. The pull strings have to be kept at the longest length for proper reach and pulley action, and so can be tedious for winding up. Bikes need to be secured appropriately before heisting and so younger kids may not be able to use them confidently - I had one bike fall off mid heist because my kid didnt have the hooks underneath the seat securely.

> 3 dayWorks well. Since you are fastening it to the ceiling joists, make sure they are strong enough. Putting a cross board member in place was a good idea since you dont have to worry about getting the plates in an exact location relative to somewhat hidden joists.

> 3 dayI have a bike hanging from the ceiling. Some of the cord and pieces are a little flimsy but it does the job.

13-04-2025I bought two of these about a year ago. One has been used mainly just to hang a bike out of the way, which it does well. I used the other to bring down and take up a bike pretty much every week-day over the year. During that time, one minor annoyance is that the hooks are fairly flat, which means that occasionally, the bike seat or handlebars will slip off while Im raising or lowering the bike. I ended up breaking a fender because of this. Part of it is the design of my seat, which doesnt have a nice flat spot for the hooks to rest, but part of it is because the hooks just arent very hook-y. More seriously, though, after a year of use, one of the pulley wheels broke. They are plastic, though they seemed fairly sturdy. But one day while I was lowering it, it just broke. Now the whole thing is essentially useless. I googled for replacement pulleys but couldnt find any. After shopping a while for replacement lifts, I finally concluded that all of the ones on Amazon which are Prime eligible appear to be virtually identical. So, for now, Im just going to hang it on a hook on the wall (since it takes some time to raise and lower these, this will save me time on a daily basis) and consider my options. On the whole, I dont recommend this for daily usage. Its suitable if you have a bike you plan to mostly have up and take down occasionally, but these dont seem sturdy enough -- and dont hook well enough -- for daily usage.

> 3 dayMounted brackets to precut 1/2 plywood, made attaching to garage studs much easier. The whole process was quick and easy and the material, rope etc was first class.

Greater than one weekBicycles can hang up, freeing up more space, you need to impress yourself on the roof, wooden roof is more convenient, stone roofs need to use expansion bolts
