I used to use this when I first began with the alkaline buffer to adjust the PH and KH per their instructions but you really only need the Alkaline buffer if you use only enough to get the PH you want.

Used the product per instruction and I found a couple healthy big neon tetras (1 inch +) died next couple days after the application. After I stopped using the product and did 50% water changes, the fish stopped dying. No news about my return. Very frustrating.

This works great to decrease pH. Just be warned that the granules will burn the leaves of aquatic plants if they fall onto them.

Dont chase the PH just stresses your aquatic life and yourself out. Work with what you have. Most fish can be acclimated to your water parameters. They will be much healthier and happy with the stability of your water, without you trying to adjust it constantly.

The city I moved to has terrible tap water. After over a week the alkalinity was not going down on a new tank set up. So I bought this out of desperation and let me tell you it works!! Now for all my water changes I sprinkle a little in a bucket and it’s good to go. (Always test strip it to confirm)

I have given this item a lot of time. I have a new 20 gallon tank which has half RO and half tap water in it and I have been adding 1/4 tsp of this acid buffer everyday for several weeks now. It does lower pH for an hour but it goes back up later on. Every day its the same story. I check right before adding this and the pH reads 8 everyday. Whats worse is that the dKH in my tank is zero now. This acid reacts with the carbonate to form CO2. So it completely reduced the carbonate hardness in my tank but pH is unaffected. I think I will give up changing my pH now using chemicals. Just let the fish acclimate to my tank slowly and hope for the best.
