I liked the first one so much that I bought another because I liked the energy use monitoring and how many scheduling and integration features the app provides. And then realized I had enough other IoT devices like this lately that maybe it was time to put them on a separate dedicated Wi-Fi guest network on my router that cant see the rest of my sensitive internal network … just in case the device mfr doesnt do a great job of security testing as you read a lot these days. The bad news first? - If you need to change the plugs Wi-Fi settings, you have to reset it - and you lose all your schedules and have to set them all back up again. Interestingly, my energy use history was retained as its likely linked back in the cloud to the unique MAC or device ID. Why the schedules couldnt also be retained I consider a bug. - The phone app MUST be on the same network to discover the plug. You cant tell the plug to use a different guest SSID network. So you first have to switch your phone Wi-Fi to that dedicated network you want the plug on and THEN also have to make sure that guest network temporarily allows all devices to see each other or the app times out. - At least the Android app is a bit quirky. It takes several taps on the plug icon on the main homepage to select it despite plug readily working. Annoying. The good news? - Once the plug is on your dedicated IoT network and you switch your phone back to the full Wi-Fi network, the plug still works and RESPONSIVE too. So apparently the phone app no longer needs a direct network connection and everything bounces from TopGreeners cloud servers quite quickly!

There are a few things I like about these plugs. I liked the power monitoring feature, although the app does not work correctly on my iPad. It did work on my android phone. I did not have any trouble pairing and adding the devices. However, there are two big issues that make these outlets a poor choice for me. First of all, they do not remember the state they were in prior to a power outage. If an outlet is on before there is a power outage, it should remember and return to an on state when the power returns. The same if it is off. These don’t. If the power goes out, when it comes back the outlets are off and will stay off until you turn them back on using either the app or the button on the outlet. This is a problem if you don’t realize there was a power outage and there is something plugged into it that really needs to stay on, like a mini fridge. That’s exactly what happened to me. I had my mini freezer plugged into this so I could track how much power it was using. At some point during the day the power blinked and the outlet shut off. The next day I went out to grab something and all the food in the freezer was thawed and I had to toss most of it. Not good. My Kasa outlets don’t do that, they come back on automatically when the power comes back, and they also will complete scheduled tasks whether or not the Internet is up. These outlets will not. I didn’t think that was a huge deal because I have my Kasa outlets for things that need scheduled tasks to function reliably. But honestly, why pay almost the same price for outlets that don’t have as good functionality? But anyway, having to check your outlets every few hours to make sure they’re still on when you live in an area where there are fairly frequent power blinks is totally a dealbreaker for me.

Ive been able to track how much energy that several utilities use, these have been handy in tracking down what makes the bill higher.

I was pleased with these; easily configured to work w/ google home... working well for months... love the power usage monitoring... yet we had a power outage - for 3 hours... and now I need to completely reprogram them ! That alone is annoying enough that it would prevent me from purchasing more of these, and looking for a smarter option that doesnt require re-provisioning after power outage .

From all the research I’ve done this Topgreener WiFi plug always rates highest. I can see why- it was super easy to set up, their website is simply to use and navigate. Our router is on the first floor and we have the plugs on both first and second floor and we have no problem with WiFi connection. I love being able to turn on lamps before I enter a room and also create schedules and timers! Can’t wait to buy more!

A very simple easy to install wifi device for your home security. We bought multiple timers for different rooms when we were traveling. We were able to manage the device timings and intervals remotely with their app. Supports multiple on/off intervals per day and also different intervals on different days of the week. Good price as well. Awesome product. Just buy it.

I have a dehumidifier in my basement and I was searching for a plug that I could monitor remotely to see if it was running or not. I didnt need the ability to remotely switch on or off (which this does, as does hundreds of other plugs), but specifically needed something to tell me if power was running to the unit (meaning it was on and doing its job). Out of the box, this unit worked perfectly and was super easy to install/download the app. Its been flawless for months now and I finally figured out what was turning off my dehumidifier... it was set to a certain percentage, and when reached, it would shut off. But the problem was that it never turned back on when humidity rose. With this smart plug, I was first able to recognize that no power was running through it, and then was able to turn it on (which I never thought I would use!). Worked perfectly. Hoping this helps someone who has a similar use case as its pretty narrow since it doesnt really use all the features of a normal smart plug.

I bought these specifically to load Tasmota on them and control them via Home Assistant. And, they did not disappoint! I had them up and running in Home Assistant in minutes. And, they work perfectly.

The setup was very easy. The timer seems to work well. There was one time I had to go back to app and reset timer. Being very picky-Reason for one star deduction is the size is a little big and wish the plug in for a lamp/etc was on the edge. That causes an issue of sticking farther out in the way on a wall. If they continue working, I will buy another pack.

I flashed these with ESPHome and use them within Home Assistant for state tracking of IR controlled devices. Works great for my purposes. These are some of the few remaining devices which can still be flashed with tuya-convert, so definitely grab these quick if thats what youre looking for.
