Zoo Med Floating Turtle Log

I do like the log. Tho beware it will probably come with some sharp spots that will need sanded or use a pair of pliers to snap off. Most of mine were on the side holes where turtles like to stick their necks thru. It does float as advertised. Did not particularly like the price. Youd think for the price they could make sure there was no jagged/sharp spots on the product.

The log sat in the tank for a few days, my turtles didnt seem to pay attention to it. Then today I saw one of my turtles halfway inside, except he was barely moving. I noticed he was stuck, underwater! When I lifted the log out of the water, I could literally hear him gasping for air. I then had to dislodge him from the log, and that further confirmed my suspicion that he was indeed stuck, when it even took me some time to get me out of the log. DO NOT PURCHASE! I AM LUCKY I NOTICED MY TURTLE OR HE WOULD HAVE DROWNED.

We started with a turtle dock from this company that attaches to the sides of the aquarium with suction cups. This initially worked well, but as our turtle grew larger he started knocking the dock loose, and he was getting too big for the dock (he is about 5 inches long). We saw this turtle log which looked ideal for him. The log works great for him to get on top of, but he started going in and out of the log and got stuck. It took me about 30 minutes to get him loose. He got stuck again about a week later. We reduced the amount of water in our tank so that if he gets stuck he wont drown. Right now I am looking for an alternative (I am guessing a wooden log or ramp) to this log. The log is made hallow through the middle, and depending on how our turtle crawls through he often makes it in and out okay, but at other times becomes wedged in tightly. He gets so stuck it is difficult to get him out. Im not sure what this company wss thinking in making this log hollow. Our turtle doesnt seem to need to hide or seek privacy--he simply roams about his tank and gets stuck in this stupid log when doing so. A responsible company would have made this log solid (maybe with a hollow center) so that turtles could not get stuck and potentially die! We paid way too much for this and in return we have to find something else before this kills our turtle. If you have a really small turtle or a really large one, this log would be fine, but if yours is mid-sized like ours--DO NOT BUY THIS LOG--it will kill your turtle!

I have an assortment of aquatic turtles and they love the log. I highly recommend it. It does move around in the tank and if you have a musk turtle or turtles that can climb, use caution b/c they may try and escape. I have the largest turtle tank with the cut out on the side and when the log is near the filter, he trys to climb out by way of the filter. Overall, the log is great.

Purchased for my pond turtle, Walter. I read conflicting reviews about whether it floats or not...it does! We stuck it in the pond and Walter loves it. Hes an adult red eared slider, about 7-8 inches, and loves to climb on top of it to bask. It supports him well. Our pond fish love swimming through it too, especially when buzzards go overhead, though Ive yet to see our frogs use it. Will be buying more soon!

When I first saw this in the store, it shocked me at how perfect it looked for my turtle pond. I bought it for far more than i paid for my second one here, but it was still worth it. I saw the turtles spending most of their time hiding in it. I have: Red-Ear Slider - Kespacho Western Painted Map - Atlas Reeves - Christopher Reeves African Side Neck - Sophie the Sophie and Reeves spend most of their time in the logs while Kespacho and Atlas roam around. My biggest concern was that it would not hold a 3-5LB turtle, but I was very wrong I would creep up to the pond and catch them over and over with Multiple turtle on a single log. I have never to date seen them crawl up there, so I am not sure how they do it. The point is they can and do. My only modification I have made to mine was to create an anchor point using a small Anchor stone and some fishing wire which I have now changed to cotton thread. Even though Ill have to change the thread more often the Turtles can see it better so they wont get tangled. The Detail on the outside when new is very good to excellent. It is very durable product wise having had mine in an outdoor pond now for about 4 months. I would state that the paint coloring has dulled a bit but the tint of algae has crept in so it doesnt affect it much. Its weighted perfectly so it floats very well for them to come up to it. If you have a turtle in the mid range which may get stuck in the opening I would recommend removing it till they have put on another 1/2 inch. Overall a 5 star product especially for the price.

My turtles love this. Wished I had bought this when I first got them. I wished they would make a bigger one for when they outgrow this.

This log is perfect for my two hatchling res. They are about six months old and 3 and 2 inches respectively. The log is their favorite place to bask, although we use it as a secondary area since it doesnt remain securely placed under the lights. The larger turtle barely fits through the side openings at this point, but still has plenty of room to swim through the end openings. I was hoping they would put out a larger version for as my little guys get bigger.

I have two smaller painted turtles who both love to bask upon this log. I have had this log for about three years now, and while it does show some wear (ala color loss due to the lamps) it still works fine. However, if you do have larger turtles it might be best to not buy this product (most pet stores have this in stock, so you can go over there to get an idea to see how big this actually is).
