Greater than one weekIve had a collection of different dies and taps kicking around my shop, but seems I never could find the right size or thread when I needed it. Decided to invest a little money in what seems to be a pretty complete kit. Well have to see how they work and last. The one thing I did almost immediately is I glued the form insert that comes with it onto the top cover. This prevents all the components from falling out of their respective slots which I found out the hard way happens if you dont put the form back when you fold it up.

> 3 dayThe first tap I used broke. The first die I used was able to cut about three inches of threads and it was junk. This is low quality chinesium metal. Unless you are doing only aluminum or other really soft materials you shouldn’t buy these! I was cutting stainless.

> 3 dayIgnore the people saying this is junk. This a a very nice set and if used properly it will last a long time. When setting the die in the holder I secure the screws to hold it slowly, you need to make sure it goes in the slot on the die, there are three slots total to line up. I do the center first as far as it will go then do the sides. This is about the only hard part. You do need to remember to back out after cutting some and you should always use cutting oil.

> 3 dayI really like this Tap & Die set. Its well constructed and contains most of the sizes that Im likely to use. Running it through some paces, it held up well to everything that I threw at it from Plastic/PVC to Copper to Aluminum, and some mild steel. I dont currently have anything harder, but I doubt that, this set would have a problem with it...given good cutting fluid. The Tap and Die handles stayed secure, which is more than I can say about other sets I own. Also, the Die handle has a set of jaws that help guide the work piece. The mechanism for opening/closing the jaws could be smother (which is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5), but it seemed to work pretty well. All-in-all, Im happy with this set.
