I am surprised at the lack of documentation and/or a detailed step-by-step setup guide. The guide that comes with the unit is confusing and almost useless. I am a career techie, and it took me way too long to figure out how to get the thing up and running. I have been able to configure both of my brand-name TVs to work with the controller. I have brand-name sound bars on both of those TVs and cannot get the controller to work with either of them after 3-4 days of tinkering. So, Ive given it a rest. I found no help or detailed documentation on the Internet to get either one of the sound bars configured. Learning codes instructions just has not worked. I am good with the way the controller works with the TVs. Once the TVs were configured, integrating the features with Alexa was straight ahead... Especially for people who have configured Alexa skills previously. If/when I can get either one of the sound bars to work, I will give this unit another star.

This BroadLink RM4 Pro S is my new favorite gadget. It works flawlessly with Alexa. My only issue is that it will not read other Dish Network remote codes. They have several built-in and it provides more than basic functionality, but I would like to be able to add in more from the Dish remote. All other remotes including fans both IR and RF work perfectly.

I bought this specifically to use as a smart remote to control one item in my house with my Google Mini. Never did I thought that I would be able to control my entire home movie theater with this Broadlink. Very small and compact to start with so it is easy to tuck it away somewhere in your home to keep it out of sight. The app is for the most part user friendly but you do need to have some knowledge on how to program universal remotes to get the full potential. I love how you can build scenes on the app and Google Home recognizes the scenes and you can trigger them with a simple voice command once you program the Broadlink scene(s) into your Google home. The one con that I am finding is that being that it is IR technology, you would want to place it where the components that you want to control like you would with a regular remote controller in a place where it has almost a clear line of site to the said components. Aside from that, it is a great IR Blaster and having the RF technology onboard is an added bonus.

I wish that this covered a wider range of RF frequencies – both devices that I tried to add were not compatible as a result.

Does not keep its settings and loses connection constantly to WiFi. using the app youll notice it takes a while for the device to ping back to life in which time it will show disconnected. Waiting to turn you lights or fan on for minutes is unacceptable. SoNoff and Shelly was the way i decided to go after the hassle

Amazingly, I bought this little device over 1 year ago. It has been continuously plugged-in & working flawlessly ever since! I literally use it daily with Alexa voice commands to control multiple devices around the house. I control my TV; ceiling fan; mini-split AC Unit; and a bunch of cheap IR outlet plugs that I have connected around the house. At first, the phone App used to be clunky and weird-looking, but now it feels and looks more polished. However, I rarely use the app since I have all devices controlled by voice or automated routines. This little device connects via WiFi and can basically learn the signals of any RF or IR remote controls. You point the remote to the Broadlink and it learns it. So I bought a pack of dirt cheap IR outlet plugs here on Amazon. I made several appliances smart and able to be controlled with voice commands or automated routines. This now includes my printer; paper-shredder; power outlet next to my bed (to avoid overcharging my phone at night); LED lights strips behind TV; and high capacity external HDD connected to my main computer. The benefit of using IR plugs versus WiFi plugs; is that WiFi constantly consumes data and bandwidth frequencies on your WiFi Router. Which leads to slowing down your WiFi. Also the more WiFi devices you have the more potential security holes you have in your home network for hackers. Thus, this device helps solve these problems. The cheap IR plugs help turn any dumb devices to smart devices. I believe Broadlink also has their own brand of smart outlets but I have not used those. The pro version that comes with an indoor temperature and humidity sensor cable (pic attached) costs a bit more. However, it is totally worth it since you can use it to set up automated routines to turn on/off your AC unit or dehumidifier once your indoor temperature or humidity reaches a certain level. The only 2 inconveniences about this device are; (1) device does not come with wall USB-A wall power brick, you have to provide your own; (2) that the “sensor cable” (which also powers this device) is way too short. I guess optionally you could get a USB extender cable if necessary. Just wish it had been a little bit longer. I just connected my Broadlink next to my nightstand since it is closest to my bed in order to get the best temperature reading for when I sleep. Also comes with optional wall mounting attachment. I definitely recommend this device. Well worth it for its versatility of multiple uses and longevity.

I purchased this product after reading some blog posts from others that had used it to control non-smart devices. Im a fairly technical person and was excited about using this with Homebridge to add to my Home Kit ecosystem. I tried multiple times to setup the device in the Broadlink app but couldnt figure it out until today (over a month after purchase). Once setup, the basics were easy. The app prompted to update the firmware, which worked as expected. Over a month after purchase I finally got to try learning a remote. Broadlink doesnt have a partnership with my ceiling fan manufacturer (Stile) so I tried to manually add my remote (they also dont have a ceiling fan category so I had do this as a UserDefine appliance). The device was able to detect the RF frequency of my remote (which is not the same frequency as documented from the manufacturer) but when I try to learn a button it never sees my input. Im only leaving this review because Im past the point of return, literally. I cant return this item. Do not buy this. Their app is horrible (I didnt even mention how scrolling the list of appliances to add is not intuitive) and the hub itself just doesnt work.
