You certainly can pay 2 or 4 times more and get a better lens, but this one has the sweet spot of value and quality.

The lens works fine but it is not like the older expensive version that is heavier. It does have difficulty auto focusing at times. I would not have purchased this lens had i been able to test it in a store. Extra.....Im adding to this review because i have had more time to work with it. Im not sure if the problem is my skills or the lens. Comparing it to the first lens i purchased when the camera was new, Canon 60d, the images are pretty good. Im still a beginner camera user of about five years but when i compare this lens to the first lens with the glass its about the same. The first two pics of cardinals are with the new lens and the last four are with the old lens. I hope this helps!

Love this lens. Just retired and havent had a camera since my Pentax K1000 in the 80s. Easing back into hobby photography with a new Canon Rebel T6. This zoom is light and well balanced. Havent really taken it out in the wild, but just shooting a little around the house and neighborhood Im already impressed. The AF is super quiet and generally quick. In really low light it can take a few seconds to focus, but at f/4.5 thats acceptable. The IS is great and makes it feel more like f/2.5-3. Loving the digital camera world. I expect this lens to give me lots of clear, focused pics when I really get busy with it. As much as I liked my Pentax which had a zoom with similar specs (but much more weight), this baby should take way better pics than the rolls of fuzzy long shots I took with my K1000. The price was right, shipping was fast and it is easy to use. See ya. The sun is out so I think Ill go down to the river and snap some moving targets.

Great lens for those who, like me, dont have the top of the line camera to begin with, want a decent price, want clear pictures with Image Stabilization. Im definitely not a professional and more of a hobbiest who wants to capture moments without carrying around $4k worth of equipment. This lens, fit the bill.
