The unit lasted for 4 years, then suddenly stopped working. The z-wave functionality was gone, and the z-wave controlled bottom outlet no longer worked at all. Interestingly enough, all of my older units from the same company(before z-wave plus - GE 45605) are still going strong.

Yeah, I know there are outdoor rated Z-Wave AC sockets but all I see are in a cord dongle which isnt what I want. Seems most all Z-Wave products arent rated below freezing. My tractor shed isnt heated so Im going to find out if this works anyway. Be nice to be able to turn on the tractor engine block heater remotely before going out snow plowing...

This outlet works great! I love using it. and I know it will do what I need it to do. It was easy to setup once it was install. this is a true Outlet that needs to be installed in the wall.

Nothing wrong with the outlets, but unlike the picture on the box, it actually does not include the white faceplate so if you are replacing traditional outlets, plan to head to the hardware store for faceplates. They should be about $1each so I recommend not getting them from amazon

I have purchased this particular outlet twice, and both have failed after 2-3 years. At a lower price point I could justify buying them as disposable but not at $50...

The relay fails after 12 to 18 months resulting in a constant loud clicking and power being momentarily turned on/off to anything plugged in. It is bad enough that it fails, but there is a constant loud clicking noise unless you turn the power off to the circuit. I purchased two and this is the second one to fail. It is unfortunate as I was happy with these until they prematurely failed. It is ridiculous that when they do fail it results in a load clicking noise until you can replace it or cut the power to the circuit. This is so irritating; a recall should be issued by the manufacturer.

First, its important to note this is a durable, nice looking outlet. Was impressed at first glance. This is my 127th device on my SmartThings hub. It is, however, was my first GE device. The device wired up easy - works solid - click the button the power comes on/off. The issue is pairing to SmartThings. Anyone with ST experience knows some devices are tricky to register - instructions end up not being correct and you look to the internet to find the true instructions from other tech people. This device is very strange - there is no factory reset option -- only a device exclusion that gives no notification of success and requires the ST apps to perform. It further doesnt give any indications it is in inclusion more or just hibernating. I spent about 3 hours reading others with the same problem also struggle -- so were successful and others, like myself, needed to send it back as a defective product. GE needs to provide status indicators for inclusion mode and exclusion mode, as well as confirmation indications like all other large zwave manufacturers. I will also give some blame to SmartThings as they have built a low capacity system that works best with 20 or 30 devices. When you exceed 100 it struggles to perform. However, in this instance the GE outlets simply fail to deliver regardless of my level of patience.

I’m a DIY’er and I prefer to follow same methods as electricians do which is to not use the push in method, and instead wrap the wire around the screws in the proper direction and secure that way. I was unable to do so and almost appears that the screws do not serve any purpose other than tightening after wire is pushed into holes. I’m sure it is fine, but I prefer the traditional way. And even if you could, you’d have to tilt it on its side. Hard to explain. I don’t think the GE engineers ever installed an outlet. As for performance, I have it connected to my Smart Things hub along with many other devices and this keeps unsyncing. I bought it specifically for where the Christmas tree always goes. I’ll return after Xmas and buy the Lutron or Leviton one instead.

Strangely, I have to turn these on , then off, then on again in order for them to turn on power. They incorrectly show power on the first time. This leaves me with low confidence for remote operation. They were easy to install and integrate with my Ring Alarm system (z-wave), but don’t give me the accurate status or confidence.

There work fine with my zwave system. Disappointed they both failed in just under 4 years. Triggered on and off once a day.
