It works, but when I put the wires in the back of the outlet to wire it up the screw head broke off as I was tightening it, and the threading on the second screw stripped as I was tightening it as well. (I wasn’t putting a lot of pressure on it when it broke).

The Geeni Smart Wi-Fi Wall Outlet is a bit of a hassle to physically install. But it works perfectly once configured using a compatible control app. It tends to be a few dollars less expensive than identical receptacle sold by the competition. That said, there are a few issues with this product that bare mentioning. The Geeni (a.k.a., MyGeeni) is simply another private-label reseller of this rather ubiquitous Chineseum-built app-managed product. Youll find this exact model sold under a variety of brand names (e.g.: Lumary, TopGreener, et al), so shop around for the best price. (Indeed, as I write this Geeni sells this receptacle--rebranded as the Current--for few dollars lower than other resellers here on Amazon.) This IoT (Internet of Things) device is managed by a handful of control apps, and its setup and configuration are straightforward with a compatible control app. I use Smart Life, and this receptacle integrates seamlessly into a Smart Life domain. I had zero difficulties adding/integrating each Geeni Current receptacle into my Smart Life domain. As this specific receptacle is rebranded by various private label entities, the following issues are typical of the device, regardless of brand. - The receptacle is only manufactured white; it is not available in any of the other standard in-wall device colors; ivory, almond, and brown. - A manual power override button resides in the middle of the receptacle that is also critical for device setup. This button is backlit by a bright blue LED. Nether the button function nor its backlight can be disabled within the control app. - Dimensionally, this receptacle is LARGE: It fills the box and leaves very little room for wires and wire connectors. If you find the receptacle does not slip fully into your existing electrical box, you must replace the box with one of sufficient volume, which is no casual exercise. It requires the use of a pigtail connection. (Simply cut three 6 conductors and fasten them appropriately to the conductors in the box with suitable-size wirenuts.) - The manufacturer includes a flimsy plastic Decora-style wall plate with included non-standard plate screws. If you choose to use your OWN Decora-style wall plate (as I did), you must increase the plate screw holes with a #35 (7/64) drill bit in order to use standard plate screws.

First off yes this will shut down your router overnight and automatically restart it in the morning based on your schedule. Could not find that answer anywhere!! Installation: 3 stars because first one we received a screw top just broke off where the wires insert. Got the second one quickly and was a bit of a challenge to loosen wire screws enough to get them in but finally got it. Then it was too big for the current box because of the ground wire screw. Trip to the hardware store for a new outlet wall box and a handy husband later and it was installed. Use: Minus some user error setting the schedule to on instead of off, set up was easy. Did have to plug the Wi-Fi into a different outlet to set up. Set up the switch in the app then moved the router to this plug. Set the schedule and it works. And if an adult wakes up in the middle of the night an wants Wi-Fi the schedule can be overridden via the app with the Wi-Fi off and it recognizes it. Nice feature is that both plugs are timed and can be schedule separately. And we got the two outlets with two USB ports for right at $20. Some non smart plugs with USB ports are > $20! This outlet is a win win for us as we help teenagers learn to value sleep and help protect them from late night mistakes by simply shutting down the Wi-Fi to all devices in the home. Sure I could take all devices at my bedtime but they are up later and want to help them learn to be responsible with some limits to help guide them.

I had to manually pair to my wifi network a few times but eventually it worked.

Installation was simple for anyone who has ever changed a wall outlet. the Screw connectors support two wires so a daisy chain connection does not need wire nuts. I did not bother with the suggested app for controlling as I already use Smart Life app and it discovered and set up the outlet perfectly. my only, and I mean only complaint is the bright green LED that lights when the outlet is powered on. its very eye catching in any room, and would be completely disqualifying for use in a bedroom as far as Im concerned. Edit: after adding a couple more of these outlets it turns out it is physically too large for standard old work type boxes or exterior metal boxes. the ground wire lug is on the bottom of the outlet and sticks out too far to fit in box. I removed my old junction box and installed a new larger new work box and it fits, but its additional complexity that will be a deal breaker for many people and doesnt work in all situations.

Installed these almost 4 months ago to control my sons amount of time playing video games. Both outlets can be easily turned on/off by the app. Very easy to install and program.

Turn the breaker off, pull the existing install the new one and sign into your WiFi. It really is that easy!

This is a great alternative to the expensive Philips and other brands. I’ve also bought the door sensors too and love them. Highly recommend them. Great value for the price.
