Klein Tools NCVT3P Dual Range Non Contact Voltage Tester, 12 - 1000V AC Pen, Flashlight, Audible and Flashing LED Alarms, Pocket Clip, Green

The NCVT-3P worked well for 110 V testing but had difficulty testing 24 V AC in sprinkler wiring. The flashlight was a nice feature. I was disappointed since my other Klein testers work very well. My old Craftsman NCV tester was considerably more sensitive. Maybe I got a defective tester, but it would not work for what I needed. Returned for a refund.

If I hadnt had this tool I would have electrocuted myself last weekend! I needed to replace the switch for my dishwasher. I thought that breaker #20 was for the switch and the four outlets next to it. Boy was I wrong. #20 was only for the outlets. If I hadnt had this tool to tell me that the wires to the switch were still live I wouldnt be here to write this review. Like the headline says, dont do any electrical work at your house without one of these, please!

I recently bought this non-contact voltage tester from Klein to help with some landscape lighting troubleshooting, which is a 12VAC - 15 VAC application. First thing I did was check to see if it would detect 12 VAC on a bench setup - landscape lighting transformer (measured 12.5 VAC output) and 3 feet of 16/2 speaker wire. I put the NCVT-3P on the 12-1000 V range and while it detected the 120VAC input voltage just fine, it did NOT respond to the 12.5VAC output.

When figuring out a electrical issues. It kept me safe

No risk of shock as is true for some voltage testers

Anything that helps me not die a stupid death is a-ok in my book. I like that this has a low voltage option, too. The alert is nice and loud and well lit. The light is crazy useful because you dont think it much about it until you need it and its really nice to have. When Im not using it for its intended purpose, it makes a great prop for when Im annoying my wife by pretending to be Dr. McCoy from Star Trek.
