> 3 dayThis is approx. 10mm pieces of pumice which is one type of volcanic rock mined in western USA states. If you live in those areas it’s very inexpensive, but living in eastern areas of USA, shipping can be extremely cost-prohibitive. I use pumice for my succulents (I have amassed an extremely large collection—hundreds). I order it in 3-gallon bags from General Pumice for around $30–the majority of that cost is shipping which is included in the price. That same 3-gallon bag would cost approx. $6 if I lived closer to where it is mined. It comes in a variety of forms—almost powdered tiny granules for making your own DIY exfoliating products (just add it to your body or face wash and viola!) and many other sizes and forms. So if you have a lot of tanks, this will save you a lot of money. I’m not affiliated with the company in any way; I’m just a grateful and loyal customer. In my opinion, these tiny jars are a huge rip-off. It’s a great product, just exorbitantly over priced.

19-04-2025Seachem...a trusted brand. After having a outdoor koi pond (with bio filtration) in California for many years, we had to move to indoor tanks in New England. However, I never really put much thought into the filter systems that come with todays starter tanks. After having a tank in my daughters room for years (one in which we periodically monitored water properties) we started to struggle to keep some of the fish alive. I decided to take a closer look at our water chemical levels and found we began to struggle with ammonia and nitrates again. It was then that really decided to shift away from the basic carbon filters that come for our specific filter - in which we always seem to throw away established bio filter. I decided that I would try filter padding with Purigen and Matrix - creating a bio filter that I wouldnt toss away each time I replaced the padding. The matrix stones are pumice based, giving them extreme surface area coverage where the bio filter bacteria can become established. I borrowed one of my wifes old nylons to create a flexible bag of matrix stones that was easy to add to the new filter set-up. My only complaint is the powdered dust that is all over the stones when you first open them. Even after a thorough rinsing, the tank became mildly cloudy when the stones were introduced. Within 12 hours that cloudiness was gone. And since using the Purigen/Matrix combo the two tanks have never been more stable and more clear!
