> 3 dayThe bio-medium is little volcanic-type rocks, large pea size. I’m using about half the container (250ml, so about 125ml). I’ve put the rocks into a bag, purchased separately, that fits my filter. My tank is 15 gallons and my filter runs at 200 gallons an hour (sounds crazy) so the rocks get a lot of flow. When I switched to this brand, I left my old bio-medium in the tank for about a week, so the bacteria would populate the new medium. My ammonia and nitrite are running at zero. I rinse the bag of rocks about once a week, scrubbing it between my hands to clear the algae. The rocks don’t get clogged, so I haven’t had to change them out for fresh ones. It takes time to build the bacteria population, and it’s important to keep something in your aquarium where the little creatures can live. In the photo, I’ve layered a bag of eggshells on top of the Matrix. (The eggshells raise the pH.)

> 3 dayThe amount of media you get for the price is just ridiculous. Seachem seems to be getting greedier every year.

16-04-2025I bought this product after using three or four different brands/kinds of media and this is by far the best. The pebbles are larger than I expected, but the bottle says that it never needs to be replaced and that it can be rinsed without depleting all of the bacteria culture. I used MicroBacter 7 for two weeks to culture the media and I have had absolutely no problems with my nitrate or nitrite levels. When it gets dirty I rinse it with cold tap water and it does not seem to affect it at all - it still works well to reduce toxins even after rinsing. Highly recommended.

> 3 dayI am a huge fan of Seachem products and this is just another favorite. I add a new bottle every 3 months to each cannister filter and it works great. Like the rest of their products its expensive.

> 3 dayI’ve always had an issue with high nitrates in my tank despite frequent water changes. I tried infused media pads but they never worked so I figured I would try MATRIX. I’m glad I did! Got my nitrates down from 80 to 20 in just under 2 weeks and still falling. I’m happy this works!!!!

Greater than one weekIt may not be the most surface area per cubic inch. Compared to newer products on the market. But its been time-tested. Its cheaper and easy to use ... No worries about leaching aluminum or other metals.

> 3 dayUse this media in all of my hob, canister, all in one/built in filters. Also used it in place of/in addition to live rock in frag tanks.
