I have used the 5.0 version and it worked fine copying old VHS home movies. I bought this one to use on a computer without a optical drive (cd tray) and could not find online where to download the software. Finally I saw in small print with the link in instructions under the first step. I had missed it earlier and tried to search online. Version 8 has more options, like saving as a media file rather than trying to just burn a CD, and it works well. Quality is mostly dependent on your old VCR.

This is an awesome product. My only dilemma is that I cannot transfer all of my VHS tapes because the kind that I have requires an adapter and no company makes an adapter for 8 mm tapes. This situation is not with the Honestech product, it is with those manufacture who make a product and do not make the accompanying product to transfer HOORAY FOR THIS PRODUCT. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO THE ENTIRE WORLD. THIS IS HOW SATISFIED I AM WITH IT. THANK YOU FOR A GREAT PRODUCT. NOW IF YOU CAN ONLY MAKE A PRODUCT THAT I CAN USE TO TRANSFER MY 8 MM TAPES TO DVD, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. BE THE FIRST TO DO SO!

Software wont load, even the download from their website wont run with windows 10 directions say to select the .exe file but neither the disc or the zip file have a .exe file on them...... doh! Im researching now how to work around this but honestly I should not have to read hours of technical articles written in programming terminology to get a commercially produced program to run on my computer. Im going to try a few more things before I send it back to Amazon. Update: I was able to find the setup file and run the file. Once setup was complete I was able to get audio but not video to record. I called customer service and left a message they called me back and had me remove and reload the software. This time vidbox showed up as a video source. I attempted to record a video but the application stopped responding. Restarted it and tried again same deal. Restart d it and tried again and it worked. Now Im recording a 50 min video and so far so good. Currently recording the first video will update after video is done.

This product has worked perfectly for the purpose for which I purchased it, that being to transfer years and very many hours of vacation and family video tapes to DVD. The Easy Wizard Mode is the method I use as it is just that,...Easy! The device is easy to set up, instructions are easy to understand and easy to follow. Although the device has numerous other features, I have not had a need to utilize any of them at this time. Thus far I am very pleased with this product.

This is NOT windows 10 compatible, it lags and has issues when installed in Windows 10. It worked okay with WINDOWS 7 & 8 . The only issue I have had thus far is sometimes it lags a little, seems to skip a bit here and there and I am use to one that never did that. I have tried it in several different settings and still does the same thing. Its nice to have but not the best.

It does the job really well and I dont have to pay someone to do it for me. It is time consuming to transfer VHS over to computer because it is done in real time but worth it in the end. One thing I have noticed is that it seems to degrade the quality a little bit. The preview window of the video looks better than what the final video quality looks like. Because of this, I docked it a star.

I think this product would have been great except I have a camcorder that needed a different cable and the cable that was provided doesnt work if you only have one input from the camcorder. I was either able to get sound or video but not both.

This product feels like its software is written by some guy that still living in the 90s with his VHS player. I have a few issue with the software. I wish you could pre-set the name of the video file that youre capturing before you hit the capture button. I also wish there were more formats available for capturing. The hack they have in the software is that you need to convert from the original file to something else after you extract. Then when you covert it looks like it has to play the whole thing in 3x speed. For me Im converting to an MPEG2 video using this software then converting that file to an m4v file. Im doing this for 2 reasons. I tune the file size in handbrake since the features are far more advanced than this ancient software. This lets me get file size reduce by over half without any noticeable video quality changes. Also, I use some free video editing software called DaVinci Resolve and it doesnt even support MPEG2 since it so old. Also, the registration process is broken and cant detect that you have an internet connection. It keeps telling me to fill out a form and mail it in because I dont have an internet connection. Like its my fault their software isnt working and they want me to yet again relive the age of the VHS where the only way to do registration was by mail. Another issue is that when you capture they should have a prompt so you can put in the date of the file and a description. I end up having to do this after the fact under the file properties in the operating system. What they do instead is just default to todays date and that gets automatically appended to the credits when youre using the editor. That part is really annoying since a lot of people would put multiple videos on one VHS to save money since tapes werent exactly cheap. All together it seems like this software is living in the past. Its mostly built on the premise of converting from one legacy medium (VHS) to another legacy medium(DVD). Then it just looks like their software developers probably just tried to hack a solution to convert the files for your digital devices. They might as well have just made a pop up that says, Just use Handbrake, then you dont have to wait for our slow software to do a worse job and waste more of the time youre already devoting to this project.

This product works exactly as described and does a great job of capturing and copying VHS to a digital format. I recommend this over many others simply because of the ability to create MPEG4 format as most other converters will not do this. The software included is very easy to navigate and understand. This product would work great for an inexperienced or experienced operator. I have it installed on a Win 10 machine and it works very well.

Granted some of my videos were thirty year plus old and I really dont think anything could be done to better them, I am very happy and please on how easy it was to transfer my videos to my Desk Top hard drive. I have made copies and sent them out to family. They enjoyed.
