Has some issues. First of all I highly recommend getting a video signal booster between your vcr and this device. I had a lot of weird flickering going on. After calling tech support, they said my vcr signal was probably weak and the device does no amplification. Also this makes random ticking noises through your speakers. Doesnt end up on the video but is annoying. And the most annoying part...the final video can be choppy at times even when you dont see it while you are watching. No doubt a product of digitizing the video. Usually at the beginning of the footage, its all black and white and jumpy until the the device figures out how to track. Very annoying!!!!! Hindsight I wish I could have used a DVD/vcr recorder before they discontinued them.

Works as intended! Easy setup and connections between a VCR and computer enabled me to copy old home VHS tapes. Once copied to your computer, the files easily burned onto a DVD. Gotta copy them before the tape wears out - or the VCR breaks! One note of caution......my VCR as 3 different sets of audio/video jacks. It didnt work on the one set of jacks, but did for the other. Something to be aware of in case you encounter a problem during setup.

While it functions, this is impressive software with several clever features that make converting old VHS or 8mm tapes to DVD format. But users should be patient, as the program will lock up without warning during the capture phase and youll have to close it out with task manager and start over again. The phone-access customer support staff were friendly and offered suggestions to fix the glitch, but to no avail. Now out $60, Ill be looking for other software options as I dont have time to attempt capturing videos 2 or 3 times.

This works great. However sometime the device is not recognized and you have to unplug the USB and re-insert it only after the software tells you its not there. Then works great.

Although I have not made use of all the options on this device and software, I have been able to go through nearly 30 VHS tapes and preserve them in digital format, both to my hard drive and to dvd disc. It has been VERY easy. The options to edit are quite limited, however. For example, on a video project, if you have a main clip that you want to fade in at the beginning, then fade out at the end, you cant do that. You are allowed only one effect per clip. If you have two clips, you can apply a transition effect, but only one. So each clip allows one transition and one effect. I also found the text quality very poor. Im using a laptop in 1920 x 1080 resolution, yet each time I open the advanced edit software, it recommends 1024 x 728 or higher resolution, as if I am not already in a higher resolution. When I apply text to introduce a video, it comes out very fuzzy. Its also difficult to find the center of the video. There is no option in a text/ font menu where I might select center text as an option. Whats most important is that I get my deteriorating VHS tapes put safely to digital and retire my ancient VCR, and that I will be able to do and therefore, am very happy with my purchase.

Starting at the Beginning and why I purchased. Wanting to transform my video tapes of family events and put them on CD. Also wanting to make CDs out of some tapes and LPs. I tried the cheap knock-offs for 11ish dollars...didnt work. Narrowed my choice to this and Roxio (I had used a previous version a few years ago). So I called Vidbox to insure this product would do what I wanted(I also wanted to see if customer service exists). I actually talked to a live human who I could understand. A HUGE PLUS. Did the same with Roxio and was directed to their online chat. The chat gave me a message about too busy and they will get back to me. A Day later they sent me a satisfaction survey....Dont bother. So Vidbox it is...easy install. Have Windows 7 64bit and installed perfectly. Didnt have to go hunting for drivers. Transferring From Camcorder...I use the advanced and this product is easy.. I followed the available help user guide and now have 7 DVDs. The look great. Had an old family recorded Christmas tape from decades ago that when played on tape seemed a little too high pitched. So easy to load onto Computer with this product, and easy to make CDs. Converted from WMA form to WAV then loaded into Audacity(free download) to edit the speed and now am happy.. Buy

Ive used this for just about 4 hours of video conversion. I have a Sony Hi8 HandyCam DCR-TR7000 using the S-video and RCA type audio cables. Simple to use - hook it up, set up the record program, hit play ... and it records. The end product is very good. Not as good as if the original was from a digital format and not tape, but it is very close. One piece of advice - when you are setting up to record and you are asked to enter the length of the recording - make sure you know the length or estimate more time. This feature is great if you want to leave and let it do its thing and come back whenever yo fell like - the recoding will stop at the time you set. But if the video is longer and the set time is shorter, it will stop recording! You can bypass that step and go straight to endless record, but only use this you are going to monitor the progress. You can stop and start a any point using this method. The only problem I have had thus far was the initial install. I had to run it several times. Twice to get the drivers to install correctly and then two more times for the software to identify my device. Since then, no problems at all.

Well made and was simple to connect to computer and VCR. Operations were tricky and I believe if the company had video instructions on their website would help the consumer to use their product to its fullest. I will have to say, I believe I have actually managed to rescue two priceless family VHS videos by converting them to DVD. Fortunately a friend had a VCR I was able to borrow to make this transfer. Honestech VHS to DVD was worth the cost. The final transfer to DVD played right away on my DVD player. Unfortunately I wasnt able to use their Editing option as it either didnt work or I just couldnt figure it out. The Easy Wizard Mode is very basic so I stuck with that.

I purchased this when I was the Video Director at my church. We recorded all activities within the church and made DVDs for the members that requested them. I used the 5.0 Deluxe for more than 5 years and changed to the 8.0 when we upgraded our camera. I had used it for 2 years when I handed my position over to the younger generation. The instructions were not intuitive but Tech Support was great. A dependable application and one I would recommend without hesitation.

This met a need for a fraction of the price sending it out to a service for conversion would have. The bad thing is you HAVE to have a VHS machine to convert VHS movies (this is a duh for many of you, but I had no idea how this worked). My in-laws asked me to convert their VHS movies of my husband and his brother to DVD. We borrowed his grandmothers VHS machine. This kit consists of two main things: a conversion box and software. The conversion box connects to your line out on your VHS machine and there is a USB cable that goes from the box to your laptop or computer. The software installed easily. I like that you can see the movie playing on a little box in the software. I thought I would just be licking my finger and sticking it in the air to see when I thought it was time to stop the VHS so this is really handy. The quality of the video is just OK and be careful about the volume you choose. I really wish I had just kept it at 0. I put it to 1 and I think it created some white noise that is minorly annoying. Not sure if that noise was already on the VHS, though, honestly. My father in law had a movie he was in as an extra and wanted me to make a DVD of the VHS he taped from TV. The sound didnt have the white noise which makes me think maybe it was just the amateur video of my husbands Eagle Court of Honor that caused it. At any rate, the quality is ok and good enough for preserving memories. Not HD by any stretch, but our kids can now see daddy with a full head of hair and can hear him. Its pretty neat for me as I had never seen any videos of my husband that young. Mission accomplished. I only took off a star because the quality is just so-so, but that isnt fair since VHS quality is just so-so. I would rate this a 4.5. We used this on our laptop running Windows 7 with no issues. I am not even close to an A/V professional. I am a homeschooling mom with an engineering degree, but I dont think that degree gave me any leg up on anyone else in hooking this thing up. I am glad we bought it. I guess the only bad thing is you pay $60 and then copy your 5 DVDs from VHS and just have this useless device and software :). But, $60 is much cheaper than the quote I got from one of those services!
