I have quite a bit of experience using ferro rods, and knowing there is a break in period for each one, this one doesnt perform any better or worse than the $2-4 ones I have used. the tool that comes with it is pretty much worthless, and you will get the best results from using a dull knife, or the spine of a thicker camping/hunting knife. The product DOES work, and will, in fact, create enough spark to light a fire....just not like the video shows, and not with the little tool provided. I will keep this in my bag, mainly because it is easy to find, but Ill not be buying another one

I expected an impressive performance from the ferro rod. It performs better than I expected. The large diameter and longer length are easy to hold and use.

This, and a Morakniv knife are all you need to start a fire. The Morakniv spine is a very sharp 90 degree cut, which is specifically designed for ferro rods. Get a Boy Scout Handbook to learn how to gather and prepare and lay out tinder, kindling, and fuel wood before you start your fire. Learn and practice this before you get in a situation where your life depends on it.

This fire starter shoots sparks like a dragon and lights a fire quickly. I wish amazon could have six stars because I would definitely give it to this product. The striker is the best Ive seen and thats almost as important as the actual fire starter. Almost. Im sure as heck going to take this hiking, backpacking and camping so I have an easy fire. For me personally I dont mind the weight of it for hiking of backpacking but if it would be an issue the company has smaller fire starters. With standard shipping I received this in a week. It doesnt come with anything but the striker and bungee cord and of course the fire starter itself in a little bag. It is definitely worth the money and good for beginners or professionals.
