I was in the market for some additional smart plugs, came across this one and thought it was interesting that i didnt need to install any 3rd party apps to get it running. Setup was really simple, just plug it in and look for the broadlink ssid, associate a email address and wait for your verification code. Then add it to Google Home or Alexa to control it. They seem to be built well, they dont feel cheap as other budget smaller plugs ive purchased before. Overall very pleased with plugs

As one of the less expensive WiFi smart plugs, I figured Id give these a try with Home Assistant, an open source home automation system. With some effort, I got them working... for a while. I had to set up an account on the manufactures servers to set them up, using the cloud solution. But I was also able to control them locally with a system like Home Assistant. That all changed when the manufacturer pushed a firmware update which now causes them to all connect to each other, instead of my WiFi access point. Now the only way to control all but one of them is through the manufacturers cloud app. Im going to try a workaround, creating four different accounts on the manufacturers app, one at a time, and re-connect each one to a different account. But obviously a future firmware update could break this, too. NO MORE CLOUD-BASED SMART HOME DEVICES FOR ME. The few dollars saved are not worth the aggravation of allowing manufacturers to make changes which break things.

It was a little complicated to set up but once I did it works fine. You must load the BroadLink app to schedule the plug. It works great with an echo dot.

The ability to add this to my Alexa smart home devices without having to add it to the Broadlink app first is so nice. Makes for a quick and simple setup.

The good: I had no problem setting this up using a web browser on a Mac Mini. The bad: It works just often enough that I dont unplug it and store it away, but not often enough that Im surprised when it doesnt. I currently use it to turn on and off a light mounted behind my TV (which acts a bias light), but I typically issue the command to Alexa before I sit down, as I never know when I am going to get Sorry, <name of smart plug> is not responding. I would estimate it works 70-80% of the time. I have other brands of smart plugs and switch (TP-Link Kasa and Etekcity Voltson) and they very, very rarely have an issue. One of these is perhaps 1.5 feet from the Broadlink plug, but never seems to have a problem. Ive tried the usual technique of disabling and re-enabling the Broadlink skill for Alexa, and it seems to make no difference. The one time I checked the app, it wasnt working there either, although I cant verify that is always the case. UPDATE: Ive noticed when I check the app when the plug doesnt respond, the status of the plug in the app is out of sync (e.g, if the plug is on, the app shows it as off, and visa versa). Thus far this has been the case every time Ive checked the app when the plug wont respond to Alexa or Google Assistant. Also, the Broadlink app will install on a M1 (or M2) based Mac.

Excellent product!. Works great, I even use one with Alexa to trun on my fan. They are very easy to install and I dont worry about turning them off, with the delay function in the app, it happens automatically.

Late delivery. Why do i pay for Amazon Prime? Ok, the important part. DOES NOT WORK WITH ALEXA. It works, on it’s own, after you install 2 different apps. Both from Broadlink. But then try to link it to Alexa and you’re out of luck. First it wants you to create an account so they can get your email address. Then it wants access to Bluetooth. Then it wants to go on and on. I gave up. Will work it from their app. Again, it works, but is needlessly complicated in setting up. It’s like trying to install a 3rd party app on an iPad. Ok so it was $20 cheaper than an Amazon SmartPlug (that are way overpriced) but it almost isn’t worth it. Buy it if you want a cheap alternative to Amazon but don’t expect it to work with Amazon. Oh yeah, did i mention setting a routine? 24 hour clock. Who made this thing? The French? ************** 5 months since purchased. Stopped working. ******************

I have this hooked to my power strip, which supplies my aquarium appliances. I have attached my aquarium light to this exact timer. It works and turns on at the correct and exact time, like down to the seconds, but it is kind of troublesome to use. I have installed the app to use for functionality, and it is a bit overcomplicated in my opinion, like I just want it to turn on at a specific time and off at another time but it does not exactly allow this. It also does not turn off or function correctly in my opinion, as it is meant to turn off at 4:00, but was on at ~5:40 PM on two consecutive days after setting it up. Edit: I have decreased my rating of the product as it is hard to use with the NoAPP functionality. Perhaps I am setting it up wrong, but it never turns off correctly, which can get plain irritating. Perhaps there are better products, but for now, I appreciate the mechanical timers more.
