Followed the directions closely and came very close to giving up and returning the printer. Made me feel like it was 1994 again--back before printers were easy to install. What the hell, brother?!?

Amazon was sold out so I had to order this from somewhere else. I just set this up and havent printed more than 10 pages, but it seems like a decent printer, especially for the price. A long time ago I had a retail job at an office supply store and sold a ton of laser printers. I was also a network admin for many years for about 150 users around 15 years ago. So Ive been around a lot of laser printers, but its certainly been a bit over 10 years since Ive had to buy them or support them. I didnt have any issues setting it up. The packaging was easy to remove and there werent any hidden taped up components inside, just the orange plastic you need to remove from the toner. The wifi was easy enough, though very tedious if you have a long password/key. Windows 10 failed to set it up over the network the first time automatically, but it worked the second time after I downloaded the Brother drivers. OSX was able to quickly add the printer using the Airprint driver. The only negative Ive seen worth mentioning so far is that the printer is surprisingly loud. Its not the loudest printer Ive ever encountered by any means, but Im fairly confident that its much louder than the HL-1240 I used to have in the early 2000s. Its very fast, not only between pages, but also from time to first page out. I suspect the noise is a direct result of how fast it prints. Im concerned about the number of negative reviews concerning the creased pages. I havent seen this issue yet, but if it occurs Im going to find a solution. A note on deep sleep mode. It defaults to deep sleep mode, and I saw at least one review recommending that you turn that off if using wifi. I did not have any issues sending a job to the printer when it was in deep sleep, however, I did update the firmware to whatever the latest version was on 8/26/2020. Update after several months of use and around 400 pages printed, its worked flawlessly and there hasnt been a single jam or any creased papers.

Only prints black and white, but it does it well. I should have read the description but reading is hard, I had to return it. My bad.

We bought this printer for our cabin over a year ago. It does not get used much but that does not affect the printing. Our inkjet needs cleaning every time it isnt used for a couple of weeks. It prints fast. Its quiet. I love the printing on both sides. Easy set up. The size is okay. It is only black and white...but we dont need color. Ive printed velum and card stock in the printer. Its all good. I recommend this printer.

I have tried for months to print mixed paper size documents with not success. I have contacted brother repeatedly and I just spent 1 hour just today. We tried everything and then I was told that there was nothing else that they could do and referred me to contact adobe. I plan to sell this machine and buy another printer from a different brand.

This broke after 6 months. I called Brother. There was a paper jam that could not be fixed . I was told I would have to wait indefinitely for them to send me a refurbished machine WITHOUT the drum . (The drum is under warranty for only 3 months) I had to take it to be repaired locally by a Brother authorized repair firm. Brother paid for the repair.

This is my fourth, and last Brother printer. Within a few months of purchase, it started fouling up all the pages with toner. I have never used third-party consumables of any kind with this printer. Its going in the landfill. I attached a test print page, generated a few moments ago by this POS.

I updated an older Mac laptop with a recent operating system, so I was worried this printer set-up and operation (eg wireless) would be difficult. In fact, it was quite easy, and the printer operates very well. I can print wirelessly from multiple I-phones as well. So far, it has performed flawlessly. It sleeps when not in use, but activates right away during use. Im very happy with it.

This thing is a complete piece of junk! Doesnt stay connected to the internet and goes into sleep mode very quickly and theres no way to disable sleep mode just to delay it.

A well-made product has certain quality indicators that can be observed even before you begin using said product. I appreciate the company that thinks of the end-user from the moment he/she opens the box to the time when the user actually experiences the technology. I think Brother did exceptionally well in every aspect of designing a good small business group/home office wireless duplex laser printer. First of all, the packaging is what caught my attention. How many of us have ever struggled trying to get a heavy, yet fragile, electronics device from a very tight box? Brother came up with a genius solution and put this HL-L5200DW in a plastic bag with straps! Extracting the printer from the box has never been that easy and only required one person! There were no countless blue strips of scotch tape that other manufacturers manage to hide in all kinds of nooks and crannies when packaging printers. Removing orange plastic tabs from the toner box was easy as well. Now, as far as the setup goes, the enclosed driver CD is straight forward and offers a quick setup procedure. I had a bit of a hiccup with making this HL-L5200DW available on my wireless network. Due to the fact that it is a secure WLAN, I had to enter the SSID and security details directly into the printer first. Once this step was completed, setting up and printing from all of my wireless devices (Windows and iOS) was a breeze. In fact, my iPad immediately recognized this L5200DW as one of my wireless printers and I was able to begin printing without a problem. Duplex printing works like a charm as well. This Brother L5200DW laser printer is small enough to compete with personal laser printers, yet if offers the features of a larger, workgroup-quality printer. The paper compartment is not exposed and allows you to load 300 sheets at time. Printing is fast (42ppm), yet the printer is very quiet. Like a good workgroup device, it offers a web interface that will allow you to further configure or secure your printer. All in all, this is a very capable, well-built printer; it is a worthy addition to any busy professionals desk or a small office.
